One of more important things that killed us today.....

was our inability to break a zone. It was brutal watching us try to do something and it's probably what cost us the game more than anything. That falls on Stansbury. Plain and simple.

Amen. How does no one talk about this. We have no clue what to do against a zone, never have. Does setting a ball screen at the top of the key against a zone ever get us anything? We've been doing that **** for years now, and it might work 1 out of 5 times. maybe. I've always wondered why teams don't zone us more. Our only hope is to shoot teams out of it. Stans is lost against a zone. We had a couple possessions where osby played the high post (which he seems perfect for) and got some good shots, and then never went back to it. With our four guard line up, swinging it around the floor and getting a three in the corner (usually ravern or phil) or opening up space for bost to split the defenders up top did ok early, but then we go back to that damn ball screen. Never have understood why we do that. Just seems like spreading it our with 4 out 1 in opens it up when we go small, and when osby's in, trying to get it to him around the free throw line are much better options.

Yes, passing beats a zone, quick passes, but not just passing it around the three point line. The key is getting it to the high post or free throw line, making the zone move and collapse, then finding the open man (inside or out). I don't know if I've ever seen a team try to do what we try to do against a zone. Been driving me f'n nutts for years now.

Yea, I saw only once during the game where you got the ball at the three point line, drew a defender up from the baseline and tried to sneak someone underneath, and the pass got away from your player. You never went back to it. Every time you got the ball to a player at the free throw line, our baseline defender would come up to help, opening that play, yet you only did it once.

I definitely felt like AK outcoached Stans at least in this game. You could tell he had a good strategy to get JV out of the game offensively, and Stans was never able to adjust to it. Also, I felt like we did a pretty good job of neutralizing JV on the defensive end.

Obviously he still put up some numbers, but he wasn't able to affect the game quite like he normally does.
