One of Stansbury's greatest coached games.

(*%$! off OEM, Coach34 and Fishwater... you guys can celebrate in other threads)

1- Without leading scorer (I do wish Stans would have pulled a "Houston Nutt" here and suspended Raven for the LSU game or hell MS Valley State next year instead of KY)

2- JV Played like a scared Marcus Campbell

3- Cousins and Patterson combined were given 43 fouls and used every one of them....

4- The ******** non-goal tending call on Wall that would have resulted in a tie game after the next trip down the court

The play of the game was this... UP 7 with the ball with 3:00 to go.. Dee drives on Cousins and the ref initially looked to call a block and then I swear he noticed it was Cousins and changed it to a charge. He noticeably changed the motion of his call, I rewound it 5 times. Then down the court Liggens hits a 3 to cut the lead to 4... I told my wife the refs weren't going to allow us to win it at that point.

We had a hell of a good game plan and Stans did a great job ...

For everything that Bury did right in the first half (actual MOVEMENT on offense and back door cuts) he just as much lost the game with the Stansbury stall at the 2 and a half minute mark. As great as we played in the first 17 and a half minutes, we looked just as impressively pathetic to close out the half.

not sure how this changes anything on grading Stansbury's performance... Up 7with 3 minutes to go we only allowed UK 4 possessions the rest of the game..

- State gets a bogus charge call because the refs are scared to foul out Cousins

- UK big man who shoots 17% hits a three ... I would MUCH rather double Cousins than guard the big man on the perimeter with a 7 point lead.

- Osby is blocked by Patterson on what is basically a layup.. although heavily contested it was an open shot that took the shot clock down to 8 seconds and there could have been a foul called here .

- Bledsoe easy layup off the block ...sucks

- After a few down and backs and 15 Offensive UK rebounds.. Barry Stewart is blocked by Cousins with 4 on the shot clock (again... exactly what you want here except that our guy didn't win the battle)

- Patterson hits wide open shot to tie it.. we doubled Cousins again and they found the open man...

- ****** usual last second attempt by us (I agree that we look like **** in one possession games with the ball and less than 30 seconds)

Our players played their butts off and I'll give Stans credit for getting them ready. But when it came down to the last minutes ofregulation, Stansbury fell on his face. By the looks of it, he told Bost and Stewart to "just get open" for our final play. On top of that, it looked like he told everyone to crash the boards (versus one the fastest teams in the nation) and it put us in terrible position to play transition defense. The players made Stans look good tonite, and typically I get wooly about the guy.<div>
</div><div>Bottom line is that I'm getting sick and tired of everyone looking for excuses. Here's a hint, look within. Refs, Kodi, El Nino, etc...</div><div>
</div><div>Too many people are content with "just putting up a fight". 17 that.</div>

Totally agree with all of the HighPoint's... The one thing that gets me is how our team completely shuts down when playing with a lead. Maybe it's my basketball IQ but this issue has been making my head spin for as long as I can remember. I understand wanting to work the clock more with a lead at the end of the game, but something has to change.

Rick, your offensive strategy for playing with a lead late in the game is clearly not working so please tell the guys to just keep doing what you did to get the lead.

DAMN! This is frustrating!

Then with a 7 point lead I thought... maybe there's a chance.

Looks just like a football team that all of sudden plays prevent defense and loses the game because of it.

We get a bad shot attempt on our last possession and "Stansbury did a poor job of coaching and called a bad play"; Kentucky gets a bad shot attempt on their last possession and "our players played great defense in spite of Stansbury's poor coaching".<div>
</div><div>Is that really how you saw it??</div>

</div><div>The play that tied the game was just a great shot. Not blaming anyone for it.</div>

It was one of Stans better games. He took a less talented starting 5 and a lesser bench and went toe to toe with the #2 team. He had a good game plan until UK adjusted. The difference in the game was Cousins, UKs much deeper bench, our starters getting tired, and UKs adjustments.

But you absolutely cannot put the blame one Stans for that part. Fundamental basketball for all you complainers.. 1) when you have the lead with less than 3 minutes the goal is to shorten the game (e.g. less possessions for each team, run the shot clock) 2) when you are losing with less than 3 minutes you want to lengthen the game (e.g. get more shots, foul to stop the clock).

Stans did this... the players executed with some decent looks but UK players outplayed our guys. They converted, we didn't. and Yes i truly believe that some of the reason for that was the Officiating.
