One other thing about the game in Jackson......

We are actually trying to help the City of Jackson at the same time. I see all these haters talking about how they would never set foot in the City, etc. etc. Why the hell would any MSU fan not want to see good things for the State's biggest metro area? It can only be good for MSU in the long term. We have to take an interest in our own state to make it better.

The lack of vision for the big picture is just mind-boggling. So what if the Jackson CC gives a hard time? How would you expect to ever change anything? Go hide in your lilly white gated neighborhoods in Tupelo and ***** about it?

At the end of the day I'd like to see Jackson have a bowl game. Big things like that won't happen unless people act. I applaud Coach34 for the attempt anyway. Hard part is actually taking action though, not talking on podcasts and message boards.

Absolutely correct, so many people only care about their tailgate or about how nice their bleacher is. Well, when we say "This is OUR state", with that comes the benefit from what the state has to offer, but also the responsibility to give back and help build the state, in whatever way possible. The better the city of Jackson is, the more potential MSU has financially and to influence not only Mississippi, but the surrounding region. Currently, it isn't a great city, but if more people gave a damn and decided to embrace the city as a place that directly effects the quality of students we get, the number of students we get, and how much money we get, because a healthy Jackson economy means more money for MSU, perhaps in time, things could change.

I understand that it is just a football game, but it has to start somewhere. Running from the problem, that is Jackson, will do nothing but hurt MSU in the long run.

Jackson destroyed itself through racist politics, ineptness and corruption. I don`t feel sorry for people who chose to self destruct then look for handouts to bail themselves out . When Jackson starts cleaning up their act themselves others will follow suit and help. You know it`s like that " taking personal responsibility" thingy you may have heard about.

in Pickens County, AL... just outside Ethelsville... pop. 80...

My dad was a Bammer and most of my family... I got it honest...

And I dislike bandwagoners almost as much as you cats.

I'd love to see the "self-cleaning oven" theory practiced there... it's probably to only way to fix the joint.

Excellent post. Someone else gets it......

Most Mississippians could greatly benefit from living someplace else for a little while. Maybe they'd quit competing against each other in their small little worlds.

If you don't want any part if it, that's fine....

...but don't run it down. Give other people who may want to help the City a chance to succeed.

What "people" are you talking about anyway? You act like specific people are holding you down and things won't change. Open your eyes.

I've spent some time in Pickens County......

....big deer up there. Aliceville's a beautiful place. Send a significant amount of students to State too.

I'm planning on stacking them up this year. and YES, the aliceville area is very scenic!

Anybody that votes for a Kenneth Stokes, his wife, Lamumba(sp) or any of the rest countless number of clowns who have been elected in Jackson in recent years are the "people" I`m talking about. When the political landscape in Jackson got to the point that only the most liberal black person in the race could get elected regardless of any other qualifications of any other candidate the smart money pulled out because they knew what was coming. MSU can`t fix that.

You need to only write about things that you know about.

I got the idea about 6 weeks ago, and I wrote an article about it on Monday- 4 days ago. In just 4 days:

We are in the process of forming a company
Indirectly contacted the USA AD
Gotten a commitment for 50K toward the project
Formed a team of 4 people for the project- with countless others volunteering
Met with a Jackson city official
Set up at least 6 more meetings with investors and sponsors

This is a long 17'ing way now from just being message board fodder

Do you think those people are chasing people out?

It's the other way around. White flight is not the crusties running from the thugs. The thugs take over once the money leaves.

Same investors that put into this football game should be investing in downtown. Should be cheap. I've seen much more dire situations in other cities eventually get revived. I understand that not everybody has that type of money, but people can get involved. Committees, volunteer groups, etc.

You're the majority.....

and a big reason MS lags behind every other state. No hope, right?

I'm not saying you're a bad person or anything. But damn, don't Mississippians ever get tired of being last. Let's step up and do something.

well, until we start purging the voting roles and licensing parenthood, large metro areas are, in fact, all doomed to the same fate...

it's a sad commentary, but it is what it is...
