One thing I truly believe about the Petersen situation...

and that's regardless of whether he IS the man or not, we were NEVER going to officially hear anything about it until AFTER the BCS selection. No way is Petersen going to do anything to potentially jeopardize his current school's chance of making a BCS game (slim as it is) because there is just too much money involved in that. So, IF Petersen is the man, it will likely be announced Monday and if its not then I think I, at least, will "officially" consider him not coming an move on to other candidates.

accepted another job. If the team is BCS worthy, they will select the team. They won't say "Their coach left so now they don't deserve a bid." That's horseshit reasoning.

Watching OU - I could be very happy with Wilson. I wonder how well or how soon his offense could "take" with our athletes.

involves a LOT of politics. It shouldn't, but it does. ANYTHING that might make a team less attractive will be considered.</p>

but I could see where Petersen is a nice draw because of his coaching style and some of the crazy plays he is known for. Another way of putting it is that he brings a little more excitement than the average coach to a football game. I don't think it is absurd to think that he would want to wait an extra couple of days to see what happens. I also don't think that Byrne would have a major problem with those extra couple of days if he is the one byrne wants.

Maybe in a perfect world it shouldn't matter whether Boise St.'s coach would or wouldn't be coaching in their bowl game, but in the real world it makes a huge difference. Their chances are slim enough as it is. If Petersen announced he was leaving (or even if it were strongly rumored that he was leaving), those chances would drop to damn near 0%.

You have no idea how bowl teams with an unstable coaching situation are going to respond. I think the BCS wants the best matchups possible, and Petersen leaving Boise State in flux makes them less attractive.

bowl games are decided makes sense based on the reasons described in this thread....

he could very well have been looking out for BSU....

if in the event they do not get a BCS bid, even though the media would be right to jump on him for it after he had said "I will not be the coach at MSU", he could very well jump back on the podium and say...."MSU has now indeed made an offer and I've accepted it"... "I've done all I can do here at BSU...going undefeated and we can't even get a BCS bowl invite let alone a title shot has me wanting to expand my career options and MSU is the place to start"... going undefeated and not getting a BCS invite would make his departure more palitable in some circles.....

it also would give Byrne the opportunity to interview a minority candidate before an "official" offer was made to another

prolly wrong but just a wild assertion...

now go ahead and curse me and call me names... I don't care...hell..they may even be deserved... one thing that can't be denied however is that there is a legit argument that based on the timing of a team that just completed an undefeated season, the timing could not have sucked worse...
