1) WTF to that board format? That is painful.
2)
Kid wants to be Medical Doctor... Came down to Vanderbilt and Utah (two colleges with outstanding Medical Schools and fine Pre-Med programs)...

Then 2 weeks before signing day goes to freaking Mississippi State? The 2nd or 3rd ranked school in the State of Mississippi that has no Med School and frankly a suspect academic reputation.

Wow the Utes have really gotten worked over in the poaching game this recruiting cycle.
Serious question. Is Utah a highly regarded institution as is a Vandy? Or, just a solid state University like an MSU. Or, is this guy just under the impression that Med Schools only admit students from other schools that have med schools? Sounds like sour grapes and blanket insults..."suspect academic reputation"? Whatever.

I lived in salt lake for a while, they do have a great medical program. football is an after thought there, even when they go to the BCS.

I've heard the "MSU sends more graduates to med school than UM" several times now. But, I've never seen it in writing. What was the source of this tidbit of info? Anyone?

the only source ive actually ever had was from a recruiter that said it....not sure if they were referring to that year or not. I think i actually did see somewhere that UM had more, but it was pretty close....especially for it being "their" school.

what it may be is MSU sends more pre-med students to UMC and Ole Miss may send more actual pre-med students to other schools.

This is what I suspect, but I have no hard evidence.

I went to UMC as well as MSU myself, and I know that MSU did indeed send more students to pre-med and some of the other health -related professions than Ole Miss. It wasn't like it was a whole lot more, but it was still more. And no- I'm not a MD, so don't send me any PM about your ailments. I'll probably tell you to go see a MD.

The reason for this is because MSU does indeed have a very strong Biology dept., and not only that- a strong chemistry and physics dept as well. MSU should be very proud of their science programs.

According to the US World and News Report Utah is a Tier 1 school and ranked 126 in the nation, which is close to the bottom of tier 1. We are a three, and for some reason no sec schools are tier 2, they are all one or three. That being said nobody is basing where they are going to school by looking at a few ranking systems.

released by the IHL a few years back. The Bio Engineering program at State beats the **** out of any pre-med program out there.

"Suspect academic reputation" Seriously is this guy making **** up out of thin air? He needs to get some from one of his four wives.

Back when I was in skool, there were always a handful of football players who could take engineering courses. Guys like Clay Peacher and Ermon Green come to mind.

However, today's Bowl Division football practically require players to not take tough courses. Except for the occasional kicker or midget quarterback, the most a player can handle is something from Interduhcinplinary Studys. The average workweek for football players is 40 hours a week in the off-season, maybe more in the Fall. To handle a full course load requires a genius with the constitution of iron and the ability to sleep only 2 hours a night.

If Muniz can handle the load, Miss. State DOES have a very good pre-med program. Often, the number of State grads outnumber OM grads at Miss. Medical School.

playing football at MSU and majoring in pre-med is REALLY good way to prepare yourself for med school.

One thing about the football players that helps them- they have tutors which can help them manage their studies and time.

Not saying that is a bad thing at all- I think it's a good thing that they have tutors to help them stay focused because of the demand.

There's another thread on that board that brings up "the Pony" incident and how we are all going to probation hell. Someone should tell themthat the Pony only hires Mormon strippers and then we'll be fine.

Traditionaly premed has a ton of memorization and labs. Even if you're smart, you still have to take the time to learn the stuff. Doing it over five years with summer school is probably reasonable though.</p>

that the Bio-eng program had two grads get some sort of medical fellowship to Washinton Univ in St. Louis in the same year. Two out of very few. Wash U is up there with John Hopkins as far as med schools go. Unprecedented was a word I heard used to describe this extraordinary accomplishment.
