Hey all I thought it might be useful to have a thread tracking all the up to date football news regarding Covid cancellations. That way theres not multiple threads all over the board, we can keep it to one thread. I'll try to keep it updated as best as I can. Please leave politics out.

This is very significant, Ivy League was the first to pull from March Madness. The prevailing thought is once one conference does it, everyone else will. It's just a matter of not wanting to be the conference that concedes.

Finebaum said yesterday the SEC keeps moving their start date. He thinks SEC OOC schedule is in jeopardy, Conference may try to play conference only games this fall, he questions if they'll be able to finish if they do start.

Two D3 colleges, I believe Swarthmore and Grinnell, have cancelled all sports in the fall semester. Not just fall season sports, but winter season sports that play in the first semester will not play until second semester, I guess.

Rather than cancel the seasons - wouldn't it actually be better to play the season - but do the unthinkable to most fans - no attendance at the games - period. Think about it - if the conferences went to the TV networks and said - here is our plan - we need "X" dollars to do it from TV - would the TV networks pony up for the games? I think they would! Then the schools wouldn't get killed financially, fans will be home watching TV - so the TV market shares would justify charging the fees for the games. I know the little schoold would hate it - but I think every UK game is on TV now live - and probably every other major school in the country. Increase the payouts by 50% - should solve the financial burden. I also believe many people would be willing to donate some of their annual tickets purchases to the schools to get this done as well. UK is in the middle - and probably in better shape than most to do this - but most schools could probably get it done. Controlled game day parties would be a big hit - the danger for the schools is this - it might be such a big hit - that would be the future in total except for playoffs and bowl games.

I know I would much rather be looking to seeing College Football on TV ,and not going to the games, than not having the games to watch on tv!

stupid argument. We KNOW how to control food spoilage.

Other than discontinue personal human Interaction can we stop this virus from spreading. At some point, (hint:after election) we need to put our big boy pants on... protect the vulnerable populations and go about life as we knew it.

People like you should have to go talk to the families of the 120,000+ who have died so far, look them in the eyes, and tell them this is all no big deal.

Going to be hard to have fans in the stands in any case.

Liability is going to be a big issue going forward for years across the board, especially when it comes to big institutions like sports.

Corona Virus will be the new mesothelioma, round up, and talcum powder.

All the Heavy Hitters of the world are gonna have a field day.

"Hi, I'm Big Hammering Hank of Big Hammering Hank Law. Were you coughed on at a football game? You could be entitled to your share of billions. Call me, the Big Hammer, and let me pound some institution for some money."

I think even with some sort of liability protection, you have to go at least half capacity because of optics.

But you're damned if you do that because the only people that are going to get in with capacity reduction are the people who pay. Big boosters, people who regularly donate to "K Funds" and the most loyal of season ticket holders.

Going to be hard for regular, single-game ticket buying, joe fan, and family to get in.

Then you get into all the different levels of politics going on with things generally speaking, but specifically with sports and what comes with making the above decisions.

it probably helped that a lot of those people at the protests and those who organized them were wearing masks and practicing some other protocols.

Whatever happened to "Let the buyer beware"? If I decide to attend a public event of MY CHOOSING, why should the entity putting the event on be held liable if I KNOW the risk involved and STILL attend?

The things you mentioned above( mesothelioma, Talcum, Roundup) were sold with little to no information released by the manufacturer on the dangers involved with their use.

With Covid-19, it would be extremely difficult to prove you didn't KNOW the dangers involved with being in a stadium full of fans.

YOU assume the RISK.

So then not everyone needs to wear a mask then? Because a lot were wearing one, bit A LOT were not. And there has not been any huge spike because of the protests. And they were NOT practicing social distancing either. So not really buying this.

I didn’t say I was opposed to wearing masks.

I wear one all the time and don’t complain. As a matter of fact, I recovered from Covid... so I can’t transmit or contract the virus. So wearing my mask is a costume.

I was simply stating that the fear porn is destroying or has destroyed our economy and way of life.

I live in a state where people don’t ***** about wearing masks. However, about every governor has botched the response to this thing in some form or fashion.

the science is showing that children in particular are NOT in danger from this virus.

the science is showing Hydroxychloriquine is an effective prophylactic.

the science is saying if your over 70, diabetic and / or obese/ heart condition. Be safe!

everyone else should wear a mask and wash your hands. ... and live life normally as possible.

shuttering everybody in place and WRECKING the economy was a goddamn mistake.

We just got our first test on how this is going to work in professional sports. NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson tested positive for COVID and was forced to miss last weeks race. Today Jimmy Johnson has been cleared to race again and will be back in the car next Sunday. No other drivers or crew members got it. So it appears the protocols do work. It also shows the impact it will have on a healthy athlete. He was out for a whole week. I believe those standards are something we can live with.

I didn't go out of my way to observe the protests, but nonetheless managed to observe several. I would estimate that 75% of the protesters wore masks from what I saw, but there was no social distancing whatsoever- and it was not feasible given the size of the marches. I did not witness any riots in person but did watch some on the news; they were actually videotaped live. The rioters were probably 50/50 as far as masks go. They actually had more motivation to wear masks than the non-rioting protesters, since they had more incentive to keep identity hidden, and also because they were often indoors (inside of stores, looting).

What probably helped more than the masks is that the protests were largely outside. With that said, it is quite dishonest for people to disregard the risk that still existed while blaming people on the freaking beach for spreading.

Lol. That number is pure fiction. There haven’t been half that number of deaths in the US due to the virus. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be taken seriously particularly with the elderly and those with medical conditions.

Why has there been no attempt to test and "contact trace" EVERY protester to see how many of them actually contracted the virus and spread it to others in there families.

When I heard the mayor of NYC say that he would NOT "contact trace" ANY protesters, I was AMAZED!! If wearing a mask is important, so is testing and tracing a group of people that were SHOUTING and NOT social distancing in large groups together.

I tend to agree with that line of conventional wisdom, but we live in a litigious world that likes to fly in the face of common sense.

I'm not sure how prevalent all that will be, it may be a non issue, but I know big entities like big time Universities and college sports have to consider them.
