I've been on this board a while and I have my first dubmass stalker. Have you checked out the box from the last 5 mins of that game yet? Also, I'm from Jackson. Nice try buddy. WTF does the location of a place have to do with whether it is good or not? Hell aren't you from freaking Bovina? Jesus you're an idiot. Just stop.

...every time I've been, it's been VERY good. Oh, and it is pricey, but that wasn't the question.

I don't know how anyone can eat a pizza from Pizza Shack, Sal/Mookies, Soulshine, Bravo, Cherokee and think Mellow Mushroom is good at all.

Haven't had Pizza Shack in Jackson have heard good things about it. Roma's is only one in North Jackson area with a real Brick Oven that I know of. The brick oven makes a difference.

The people who answer Mellow Mushroom, get real... Just tell everyone your favorite burger is from Chili's, your favorite steak is Outback, your favorite taco is Taco Bell, your favorite Po-Boy is Subway, etc... Mellow Mushroom is crap.

Soulshine is also good to me. Its probably 2nd in my book. Like I said I haven't tried Pizza Shack going to soon though.
Ah, no. My favorite burger is Mugshots, favorite steak is Ticos, don't order tacos, and favorite Po-boy is the shrimp at Fat Tuesdays. Thanks for assuming though.

First off, I do like their pizza. It's good. Especially, the crust. Definitely worthy of being mentioned in a best pizza thread. However, I don't really know their history, but when I think Mellow Mushroom I think about the one in Tuscaloosa and the one in Birmingham. Both have a local "pizza joint" feel - at least they did at the times I visited years ago. Plenty of character, a nice beer selection, and poor looking college students that you would trust making a proper pizza.

Then, I think about the one in Jackson and the one in Germantown. Same pizza (I think?), but they are massive and have an Outback or some other large stale corporate restaurant feel to it. It feels forced and awkward. I wanted to bang my head against the wall when I went to the Germantown location a few weeks ago. I was an idiot in assuming that my previous experiences could be duplicated in Germantown, Tennessee. As you would expect for the location, it was filled with a bunch of families with their pre-teen and teenager kids. Plus, there were far too many pairs of crocs in one building for me to be comfortable. Not that there's anything wrong with teenagers and crocs - it's just not my preferred environment when going out to eat and that scene is so much different than my previous image of the place (moderately diverse poor college students vs. soccer moms, SUVs, and suburbia). They did have Dogfish Head on tap - that helped me get through it...

Has it always been this way and this is the norm for a Mellow Mushroom? Or, did they finally just expand their market from local pizza joint to large-scale chain restaurant?

Great pizza and beer though...

Around North Mississippi I would have to go with Pizza Factory in Baldwin (best with many pitchers of beer) and Vanelli's (i have no idea how to spell it) in Tupelo.

Giving yourself a little too much credit there....I care less about where you live, what you do for a living, that your wife is fat, etc.....

in New Hyde Park).

When you read the reviews you will see one called the gramma which came about after I left so I don't know about that. However, The Sicilian Pizza (thick and square) is just the best pizza ever made. I get it every time I go to the old home grounds or if any of my family goes to or comes from NY they bring me one or more.

There isn't any better.

Roma's may be another name for a chain, in fact I'm pretty sure it probably is.

But I know with absolute 100% certainty that it is not a chain. I have known the owner for about 9 years now. He is local.

The Pizza is really good. The firebrick oven makes the difference. Don't know if its better than Pizza Shack or not, Sal&Mookie's is very good and very expensive (for pizza anyway), Roma's is about a block from my house I think its great.

only ate there 10 to 20 times. I got the salad mostly. the calzone is ok. The pizza is a cracker with cheese on it.

I know there are people that like that type of crust, but that it is just a sad excuse for a pizza.

a crowd that would mirror Deutchtown, TN. Younger families, teenagers and soccer teams, with occasional Scott county sojourners. They actually serve decent pizza and the service is decent. But not anywhere near "best pizza."

I think they just opened one in Clarksdale too but the original in Indianola is by far my favorite pizza place in Mississippi. And in Jackson I would give the slight edge to Sal and Mookie's over Pizza Shack.

The one just one stop on the red line south of Wrigley. Old Style to go with it. Hop the red to Addison, hit the bars, catch a game.

if it's still open.
It was where Crabs Seafood Shack isnear McB's. It didn't last very long at all though. I've eaten at the one, I think it'son Rampart in the CBD, but it's been a while. This chick in med schoolat Tulanetook us there. It was damn good. the gourmet cajun pie with andouille sausage, crawfish, marinated chicken breast and some cajun alredo type sauce is a great choice.
