Let's look at this realistically. The nation is eager to not see an sec team in the title game. We go undefeated and beat an east team in Atlanta that isn't in the top 5, we are going to see a repeat of the year auburn was denied a spot in the NC game. I cannot live with that. I can live without some ****** bowl now we've won two. We need to play one non cupcake.doesn't need to be a great team. just one that has a shot at a bowl.

well if you are talking about next year, and we went undefeated...we would be one of the 4 teams regardless of OOC.

ETA: but like fish said, it ain't going to happen anyway.

Maybe not when you are going to have a group of people deciding who the 4 will be. They may decide that we paid too weak a schedule. Especially if there were 2 undefeated (or even 1 loss) SEC teams with a chance.

Strongly Disagree. If anyone goes undefeated with our schedule, which means they beat two top 5 teams on the road (LSU and Bama) and ARK and AU at home, they would get in. Have you not seen them vote in teams with 1 and two losses (LSU '07)? Contrary to popular belief, not everyone is out to get us. I'm in favor of playing a better OOC schedule but to say we'd currently get left out is absurd. Keep in mind Boise is always in contention to get in till they lose to some scrub on a last minute FG. The only way we could get left out is if there were 2-3 undefeated teams which is never the case.

LSU, ARK, AUB, A&M, BAMA, TENN, East Champion...

If we beat those teams and stayed undefeated, no 1 loss SEC team would be leapfrogging us.

I wasn't saying I thought e would. I was giving the reason I think we need to play one less cupcake.

If any two higher ranked teams above us when the bcs poll comes out go undefeated, this year, then it could happen. Provided the unlikely scenario we won all our games.

It most certainly does. If the non conference SOS is stronger, the chance to jump them goesup in the human polls and computer polls.

I'd be onboard with this when we start getting over the hump and beating LSU, Ark, Bama, Auburn on a somewhat regular basis again. Once we do that, Let's start scheduling more challenging non conf schools

I don't like this. Any team that plays a SEC schedule doesn't have to prove anything to the rest of the country. Give me some combination of SWAC, UAB, Tulane, Memphis, MTSU every year. If one of those teams catches lightning in a bottle and turns the "corner", then replace them with South Alabama.

Pardon my pessimism, but

that's just never going to happen. We will never be on the same level as LSU and Bama where we are beating them regularly. Arkansas and Auburn maybe, but we will lose to them more than we win. We just don't have the resources or population to compete with them and beat them on a regular basis. We will have periods where they are a little down and we are a little up, but that's it.

We go undefeated in the SEC and we will be in the National Title game unless there are two undefeated teams ranked higher. Playing a so, so OOC team is not going to make any difference. Asinine to be even worrying about what happens if we go undefeated, but even more asinine to break up the formula that is working because some people are getting WAY, WAY, WAY ahead of themselves.

That particular year

I believe it was 2004- you had three BCS conference teams go undefeated. The odds of that happening are pretty slim. But, if we went undefeated- that is about the only way we would get left out of the BCS Championship Game.

Especially when you consider that we would have beaten whomver won the SEC East in the SEC Championship Game in addition to what we already have.

Pardon my optimism, but

I think we get by Auburn and Ark this year. A&M should be close but I don't think they handle our SEC speed just yet. Add a 4th strait win over the bears and an automatic win over KY. TN will down this year too with Dooley on the way out. All we have to do is split Bama and LSU. Don't think we can get by Bama on the road this year. But call it a hunch, I say we whoop LSU this year. They play Bammer before us and we will be hurt and fatigued coming off a hard game. Dan finally gets their number and a signature win and we'll be 7-1 in SEC. A little luck and and we'll be back in Atlanta. If not, certainly a BCS bowl.

Was reading another board andGeorgia fans are discussing

ESPN talking heads saying that Georgia could win 13 games and still not play for the National Championship....because of their weak schedule. Just sayin'.

That's because they don't play Bama, LSU, Ark, A&M, etc, like we do. Just sayin'

There is one fact though that makes your assertion null. We are Miss. State. They are Georgia. If Georgia can't get in the game undefeated then Miss. State sure as hell can't.

Not no but hell no. If we, or any other SEC West team (or ANY SEC team), goes undefeated we will be in the title game even if we play the little sisters of the poor for evey OCC game. We don't freaking need any stong OCC games. That is for teams from every other conferance that ain't the SEC. We need 4 resonably sure wins and hope to get enough wins in the best league other than the NFL to go bowling. Strong OCC schedules are for the Big 10.

So, we are coming down to the end of the season, undefeated and there are two other teams that are too. Not in the sec. One is Southern Cal and the other is Florida State. The east team we are playing is Florida in the championship game. They have already lost 2 conference games to LSU and another east team, but they win the tiebreaker and are in the seccg.

We win, but not as big as FSU wins the game they played florida.

Now, are you telling me that after what happened to Auburn already, we wouldnt be snubbed for the NC game BECAUSE of our OOC weak schedule?

If we beat LSU and Alabama and win the SEC championship game then we play for the MNC, hands down no arguement from anyone. Get back to me when we do it. If us and USC played in the MNC game I would be on top of the world, my two favorite teams.

Man... worry about that when it happens... More likely than not... it's not going to happen... at the very least, not any time soon. Besides, the BCS system is going to be on it's way out pretty soon anyway, so if we get snubbed, it would have to be some pretty hard core 17ery going on for that to happen.

Very, very weak argument. So you're saying that if we won @LSU, @Bama, Ark, Aub that we wouldn't be ranked high enough but if we added one more "non cupcake, doesn't need to be a great team. just one that has a shot at a bowl" that that one game would make the difference and put us in the NC game? If those SEC games don't do it, one "team that has a shot at a bowl" sure isn't going to be the difference.

Playing 1 better OOC game last season meant we probably sat at home last season. Going to bowl games every season helps recruiting much more than satisfying your desire to play tougher teams. When we get to the point where the schedule is holding us back, then fine. Until then I'll keep enjoying my bowl game trips.

ALL of the other SEC teams do it. And yes it will. That is the difference. It is in what you CHOOSE.

If you want the guarantee of a weak bowl while sacrificing the chance at the big one, so be it. I cant live with that.

If I truly thought it one more decent non-conference game would make that big of an impact in our bowl situation then I would say go for it. Fact is that compared to the other games we have on our schedule, the difference one decent non-conference game would make would be negligible. The bowl game is more about wins to me and yeah at this point we are still in a situation where we need every win we can get to get to a bowl game: see last year.
