Grafton is still looking to fill their opening. They had it filled, but the new coach backed out for family or health reasons...Frosty95 posted over on the 1A board that Mark Wheeler was named as the head coach at Parry McCluer.
I assume that fills all known open HC jobs? (At least for a few months.)
But it sure is odd how it was turned down by the "replacement" coach so quickly and still is open with the season 5 weeks away. I just feel there is more to the opening.Grafton is still looking to fill their opening. They had it filled, but the new coach backed out for family or health reasons...
That's a good HC position to have, great community support with a solid bunch of pretty good athletes each and every year.
I agree, it was a go, then just suddenly a no go. You know how personnel matters go, if there was something other than what was released, we will never know. I hope the Clippers can get a quality hire quickly. Their teams are always so athletic, wouldn't do the kids much justice to just bring in a "body" to coach. But it sure is odd how it was turned down by the "replacement" coach so quickly and still is open with the season 5 weeks away. At Jamestown due to their poor performance in football for some time and some parents issues I can understand taking that job only as a last resort, but Grafton has a pretty good team every year.Do you remember when Jamestown had a similar situation a few years ago. Surrounded by a lot of mystery. Fortunately it didn't occur as late in the summer as this.
Grafton has Jimmy Clements as the interim Head Coach for the time being. According to Athletic Director Laura Parker, they are still in the process of trying to get someone in the building.Grafton
Could the AD at Grafton taking any longer filling the spot?Grafton has Jimmy Clements as the interim Head Coach for the time being. According to Athletic Director Laura Parker, they are still in the process of trying to get someone in the building.
If anyone notices a name or school missing on our list, shoot me a message or an e-mail ([email protected]) and I'll update it as soon as possible.

It is taking a while, I'd agree, but in her defense the timing was really bad too. Quite honestly, my gut feeling is it'll be tough to get someone in at this short notice, so the Clippers best bet might just be to go with the interim coach for 2017 and then re-assess things at the end of the season with the possibility of posting the job again in early 2018.Could the AD at Grafton taking any longer filling the spot?
But, you just have to give her the benefit of the doubt. She could be doing everything possible and the Administration is the stumbling block.Could the AD at Grafton taking any longer filling the spot?
And Coach Clements may turn out to be exactly the right person for the job.It is taking a while, I'd agree, but in her defense the timing was really bad too. Historically she has done a really good job. I wouldn't be losing any sleep over her search. Sometimes things are beyond the AD's control. She has made some pretty good hires in all sports over there. She will get it right again. And I agree, the interim guy just might be the right the guy....provided he actually wants it FT....some assistant coaches are happy just being assistant coaches....But, you just have to give her the benefit of the doubt. She could be doing everything possible and the Administration is the stumbling block.
But, without a doubt, the kids are the ones that are hurt.
And interesting to note - Marty O'Brien has a story in the Daily Press today I see that Grafton's former Head Coach Matt McLeod as well as assistant James Holbert (who was on staff during Phoebus title runs) have joined Andy Linn's staff at Lafayette.Sometimes adversity yields great things. Let's hope the kids, staff, and parents rally to the cause.

I wouldn't dream of saying that Mathews is low on talent, but they haven't exactly been lighting things up very often over the years. Especially since Lawson left Mathews for Tabb years ago. I wouldn't necessarily say that 8-22 is an indication of what type of coach he is or may turn out to be...more interesting is the low turnout for Grafton. 35 is anemic for the Clippers.New coach at Grafton announced. Former 3 year HC at Mathews which I believe is Class 1. He is young at 29 but only went 8-22 at Mathews, not exactly stellar. Turnout for Grafton was reported as 35, which is on the low side. The new HC will not be a teacher at Grafton, a first but is a youth coordinator at a York Co. church. Seems a reach to me to get someone by the July 31 opening training. We'll see how it works out. There are some real good returning players like the Qb Moore.
McLeod may be positioning himself to take over at Lafayette, allowing Linn to move up.....interesting moves.
I don't think Linn is going anywhere for quite awhile. The article states the Ex Grafton HC needed for medical reasons to step down and pursue something less intense and the talented ex Clemson Asst Coach was passed over to replace. Both are outstanding coaches who always pushed Lafayette tougher than anyone else. Now they are on our sidelines. The best coaching staff now in the District. It's pretty clear now if you are serious about wanting to play football at the college level and live in this area buy or rent in the Lafayette school district.
