JUCO prospect. Should red flags be fluttering in my head? If not, why not?

whether the program is in the tank or not. With our state's JUCO program and our proximity to so many good players via JUCO, it should never be ignored.

However, my limit per class is about 5. Go over that number and you are seriously taking some chances on long term stability.

I also don't think kickers and punters even factor in to that equation, because any kicker or punter should be able to start as a freshman. It is not like the field gets any longer. So I can handle taking JUCO Ks and Ps, because at the end of their two years, you shouldn't be too worried about having to find a HS kicker or another JUCO option.

That doesn't work as well if you go out and get 4 offensive linemen and find yourself needing to start 4 freshmen and sophmores in 2 years.

Rosebowl said that Langston should win Mississippi Juco player of the year. His coaches are MSU guys so that may have helped us. Offering this guy this late either shows that he's blown up this year or we are out of the picture with Bumphis and Patterson. If we can land the kicker from Gulf Coast CC and keep Hutchens (punter at ICC) we'll have 2 Juco all-American's kicking for us next year. That has to be an improvement from where we are right now.

If they don't I would feel that recruiting a JUCO PK has much less risk than a HS kicker. Its possible that one of Richards' big problems was the transition to kicking FGs without the aid of a tee. For some kickers, they never adjust. One huge example was the Saints wasting a first round draft pick on Russell Erxlaban from Texas as supposedly the greatest kicker ever out of college (when all colleges used a tee). He was a bust in the pros because once the tee was gone he couldn't cut it kicking FGs.
