Opinion needed.

Little project today making a little live edge bar. Plan on sliding a couple of little stools under for the kids to eat at. Needed to cut the live edge off the slab on one side to get it to match the wall flush so I can secure it to the wall. Used a track to get a straight cut with the saw. Now I am wondering if I should use the cut of piece as a little back and for aesthetics and to protect the wall a little.

Upvote for backboard, downvote for no back board.

FWIW. Mrs Bite is an interior designer. She says back splashes are out of style unless it’s a replacement.

Really? I'm assuming she is talking about kitchen/bathroom backsplashes. Or is she just talking the 4" granite/marble splash. I think some local jurisdictions actually require a backsplash in kitchens.

What are folks doing behind the stove and sink without a backsplash? I guess some high-end paint that is bacon grease resistant? What I see in new builds is more of a counter to ceiling larger format tile instead of subway tile going up 18 inches.

Regardless of in style or out. That is a regular sheet rock wall. Needs the back with polyurethane sealer for spilled drinks. Kids will spill stuff.

She said this recently about a pool house countertop remodel. I think it’s all over the place now, tile, stone, glass, metal tiles or whatever. I’m a wood guy myself, the more the merrier to me. Garddog has a good point about spills. Put the back splash on with the 3M Command strips for awhile and see how it grows on you. I use those for everything now, they’ve moved into the realm of duct tape and zip ties at my house.
