He is 14-1 with a 1.38 ERA.

I am actually happy with this for two reasons.

1. He is a Right Handed Pitcher

If we're going to be facing a bad *** pitcher one way or the other, I would prefer it be a RHP.

2. Freshman

Much like Virginia, they will be starting a freshman in a big game situation. He will likely have some nerves flowing, so we need to get to him early and get into their pen.

I don't love our chances against this guy because he is a stud, but given their starting pitchers, I would rather face this guy than their Ace, Boyd.

Thoughts?

Very impressive numbers but I love that he's a freshman and right handed. Any stats on him like k/per9 and walk ratio? How hard does he throw?

Starting pitching seems to be OSU's strength

So we had to face somebody that could pitch.

KState supposedly had the #2 Offense in the land., they had 6 hits, and 4 runs on him.

One thing that jumps out at me is that he has 16 starts and 15 decisions. So in per words, when he starts, they leave him in there. There will be no quick hook regardless, so we need to jump on him and put together some big innings early. Oregon State rides their horses, so while working counts is important for walks...it's not likely going to get him taken out due to pitch count.

He has hit 10 guys this year (highest on e team), and that's not a lot, but with a freshman in a big game it could become a factor.

I've read where all of their starters work the inside corners as much as the outside, which worries me a little. We tend to lay off of really close inside corner pitches because we stand on top of the plate. We are going to have to turn on those pitches tomorrow and crush some balls to show that we aren't vulnerable or they will live on that inside corner. Tis guy is a terrible matchup for Big Wes, but hopefully he can overcome it.

I would imagine we will have a lineup with only 3 RH bats tomorrow...

Frazier
Detz
Renfroe RH
Pirtle
Rea RH
Bradford
Frost
Ammo
Henderson RH

...so we should be able to combat it well from a matchups standpoint. Could even take it to two RH's if we started Robson, but I don't see that happening the way Henderson has been hitting lately.

With such a huge outfield I would really rather see Porter DH'ing and Detz at 3rd, but I doubt we see Porter until pinch hit time, because Graveman will get lots of ground balls and Cohen likes Frosty's defense.

Looks like they have 3 pitchers that logged the majority of innings. At this point every team is going to have 1-2 above average starting pitchers (except maybe us) but OSU looks to be really lacking in the bullpen. I'd much rather face them after 3-4 games but it is what it is and we HAVE to get into their bullpen early. Do that and there's a huge power shift to the MSU side. I have a good feeling about tomorrow. Remember OSU hasn't been this far since 2007 and they are starting a freshman.

Since pitch count is likely to not play in our favor, I like the approach of swinging the bat (id like to see us drag bunt, too) and seeking contact. Neither team is going to live or die on the long ball, so have our hitters look for any manageable contact. I also think we should look to play small ball, as well. It will help us because hits may fall for us... But the down side is definitely quick innings and increased confidence.

I tend to disagree with just one point here...

I think pitch count IS important. If we can somehow average 20 pitches an inning he could be pulled in the 6th which would be a huge swing in our favor. I hope we work pitch counts and foul off 17 loads of balls.

Other than that I agree with everything you've said 100%.
