according to SS930. So not even 2 hours into their jobs at USC, they committed a violation.

If he's talking to any JUCO guys that have already signed, then it would be a violation, but early high school enrollees still aren't able to sign LOI's yet, so any of those guys they've contacted is ok even if they've gone to class because they aren't technically bound to the school. Also, as long as they haven't gone to class AND signed an LOI, it's ok. Agreed that it is very unethical.

I'll agree it's dirty and unethical, but I don't see how it could be an NCAA violation.

Enrolling early from high school, but isn't permitted to sign an LOI yet. He can still be recruited by other schools since he isn't yet bound to the school through an LOI. Tennessee has 8 or 9 early enrollees that haven't signed yet, so the same deal applies.

we're in a dead period.

You can still telephone recruits in the dead period. You just can't visit them in person, either at home or in school. What the O did was certainly unethical, but not against the rules.

and told them the University of Haiti's football program is shutting down and they should come to USC.

but if they attend a formal class, the 5 to play 4 starts and so do the transfer rules.

Ed O was apparently attempting to get them to not show for class. This apparently is some gray area if they are not on the formal roll if it were taken by a professor.

He was making fun of Eddie O since he was supposedly trying to sell Tulane players into transferring to Ole Miss shortly after Katrina.

Funny joke, although a little too soon.

In his news conference Wednesday, UT's athletic's director said if a student/athlete is enrolled in a university at 12:01am on the first day of class, then he is bound to that school. He said attending class is not the trigger, being enrolled on the first day of class is.

As for Orgeron contacting recruits, at the time he did this, he had resigned from UT and had not officially been hired by USC. Techinically he is not coaching for any university...I have no idea if this matters but it could be a loophole.
