They just showed it…sort of like tennis with the electronic ball and lines graphics. That was a really close offsides..my goodness.
Only takes a nostril hair to be offsides. Used to be different and refs looked for a sliver of daylight between the player in the potential offsides position and the last defender. But the rule was modified and now it’s the slightest bit of player beyond the last defender, a toe, a knee, anything, and it’s offsides.

Hard to say if soccer hooligans will be harder to deal with unwillingly sober or happily drunk. I see a pretty high potential for problems between the strict "no fun" rules of the host nation and the strict "24/7 insane fun" attitude of lots of soccer fans.

Oh hey look! It's a rainbow shirt GIF. 😁
Most known “hooligans” are on watchlists and have been for about two decades now, if I recall correctly, and can’t get anywhere near matches like this. ****, I’m pretty sure they can’t even get to stadiums within their own countries or stadiums where their teams are playing at in other countries anymore, if they’re on said lists. I’m also pretty sure these are “lifetime” bannings.

Personally worried about Iran. Wales as close to a must win as one gets.
They are a real wild card between the current tumult in their country and bringing back the coach a few months ago who had them lose only 1-0 to Spain and tie Portugal in their last WC.

Weird/funny moments with Dest at podium answering (actually not answering and having funny long pauses) questions on our setup vrs Wales. Thinking this might mean there are some tweaks to the above - maybe Z/Long/Ream as a back 3.

Under that setup ... hmmm. Things get even more confusing player selection-wise.
A 343 is easier to predict. That puts Robinson and dest as wing backs, weston and adams in mf, and opens up the opportunity to play pulisic or reyna in a false 9

Good point about 3 4 3. I honestly was only thinking 3 5 2 for some reason to get Musah on the field. And I also keep coming back to Aaronson being listed as a mid on the roster and think he can fill a role centrally. A lot of ways GB can play this.

That is not totally true. If only the player's arm is extended in an offside position, that is not considered offsides, as he cannot use his arm to score a goal.

Unless England score early this could be a tough game to watch. Iran playing a bunker, all 11 players behind the ball.

Questionable no call on corner, several England players were brought down in the box, no call.

Would a tie in the Iran/England game be best result for the US, keeping England's (and Iran too) points down?

edit: oh well so much for that lol....unless Iran somehow manages a score

Idk, I would expect England to go through. Might want Iran with zero points.

Not that I care about Iran but it must really suck knowing your WC is over after game 1. No way a team like Iran can overcome a 4 goal deficient. Yes I know they could beat the US an Wales and still advance but in all practicality their WC is over.

There is a clear path where they could advance with four points. It involves England running the table, and USA-Wales ending in a draw. Neither is far-fetched.

Overconfident assertions.

Iran was #2 out of Asia, with Japan being #1, I think. They played poorly against England, very poorly after going down 2. But they are not a horrible soccer team. The US will have to play a lot better than in their recent friendlies to beat them if Iran doesn’t self-destruct.

We need to see how the US plays this afternoon to see if we’re back to the play level demonstrated in qualifying or not.

Ream Sargent and Weah start. Safe to say no Men's coach has had the luxury of Aaronson and Reyna on the bench.
Agree. But also, Reyna might still not be 100%.

No surprise at all about Weah. Unless he was hindered by injury, it‘d be criminal not to start him.

Ugh. The difference in commentating between the England game and this game is stark. These guys need to STFU and let us watch the game please.

Not to be too specific.....but.....a US win (and leading at halftime) with both (or either) Pulisic and Weah goals would be much appreciated.

Specifically a 3-1 US win actually.

Already see some communication issues with guys not having the chance to really play/train together. Hate having the cup mid-season.
