I have been a donor to FCA in the past so I receive newsletters

periodically and sometimes read them. I think their mission is a great one to turn kids around and I think they have a great deal of success. With that said you are entering an environment with a number of kids that have some sort of struggle and some that don't which honestly may not be that different than a lot of schools when you think about it. They certainly are equipped to and experienced in turning kids around both academically and spiritually which I believe is their main mission. I guess it depends on your situation and circumstances.

My first room mate at State was from FCA. Fwiw. Nice guy with probably the same family storyline as the other students. This school definately fills a need.

First, are you talking about for a junior high or high school kid? Or are you talking elementary school?

What are your other choices? I mean, it is a 'private academy' in Choctaw county. The school is basically the same as the rest in Choctaw County but with fewer resources and not as highly rated academically as the other schools in the county.

My background is that my inlaws have been teaching in Choctaw County for 30+ years, FWIW.

If you're taking the Trace, it's a great place to stop for a cold drink.

My son is in the 8th grade presently. He makes great grades. Starts for the jr hi baseball team. But we are having issues at home. We live about 150 miles away from FC. Just looking into options that would be best for him.

I would give them a call tell them your

Situation and then listen to what they have to say. If impressed I would them setup a visit.

Throwback to the '70's, the 1870's

The school is a throwback to a much more simple time, like the '70's, unfortunately, it is the 1870's. French Camp as a community is a very closed society. Kids start kindergarten there and girls usually end up marrying guys they met there on the first day of kindergarten. Also, I don't think anyone would ever classify FCA as a place that has great academic standards.

Obviously they aren't Jackson Prep

But if the experience leads to a troubled youth at least getting a good basic education while also turning his life around then I think they serve a pretty good service to society. There are so many out there that are lost with basically no hope.

Order whatever package you can get from them i.e. brochures, dvd, etc and leave it laying around for said son to run across. He may get the message and save you some $$ and time...............

+1000 this happened to a buddy of mine. No joke, he said he knew his mom was serious when he saw the pamphlets lying around. Straighten him out. Got his head straight, went to State, and got engineering degree.
