After being relatively quite for a couple decades, in the last week or so they've been hit by one just shy of 5.0 and now another 5.5. Add to that over 100 foreshocks in the last 10 days or so and it seems the proverbial writing is on the wall.

If the situation was reversed, in my experience, they wouldn't give a damn about us.

On the contrary. They would care...

But many of them would find nothing but humor in it. It's simply considered A-okay to ridicule certain groups in certain parts of the country. In most of the country, the south is an easy, accepted target for ridicule. The south is very guilty of it too, for various other transgressions.

Sadly, it was our congressman from south Mississippi who questioned providing

Federal aid after Hurricane Sandy. Maybe we are the ones who don't care?

How about ms folks that would say Cali got a big earthquake b/c of "all the sin there". Similar to the hurricane Katrina, Nola bs. My point is that crazies in Cali would treat a natural disaster no different than southern crazies.

The difference being that southerners would blame it on sin and Californians would blame it on fracking, GMOs, global warming or any other number of issues.**

There were a couple of relatively minor earthquakes overnight in Oklahoma too. But yes, southern California is a ticking time bomb.

Many of the comments in this thread demonstrate that some Southerners have the same attitudes they speculate Californians would have. And how often have we seen the word "Yankee" used on this board as a pejorative, even regarding our head football coach?

That congressman may have known of the waste and graft of much of the Katrina aid and wanted to make sure the same thing didn`t happen again with taxpayer money. I really don`t want my congressman signing every spending initiative that comes across his desk without question. Also isn`t it true that the congressman later toured NJ and then supported the aid bill ?

You're in southern Kansas?

Any damage from the quakes? The news didn't really say, but there since it happened overnight reports aren't necessarily in yet.

There was one member of the Mississippi legislature that said he didn't care if all the millionaires on the coast did lose their houses during Katrina. One of our own.

Haven't heard of much other than basement walls with cracks. No damage for me. The house started popping (sorta like how it sounds when it cools at night but all at once). Then I heard the dishes downstairs rattling and knew what it was.

I thought it was the wind rolling in until I heard the dishes. Wind here starts like someone flipped a switch.

Experiencing an earthquake was on my bucket list but I checked that box a few years back.

Are you in OK or Kansas? Don't meet many dawgs in that neck of the woods.

Kansas. We have a few engineers up this way in air manufacturing from MSU. The new dean of the engineering school at Wichita State is a home grown MS boy who was a professor at MSU for a couple decades.

Well, I don't remember a ton of people complaining about the billions of federal aid that came to the area after Katrina. Of course most of them probably thought Katrina hit New Orleans so they may not have realized Mississippi was getting a bunch of Money.

Federal aid after Hurricane Sandy. Maybe we are the ones who don't care?

Did he really question whether aid should be provided? Or did he just want to pay for it by cutting other programs? Or actually want the money to go to hurricane relief rather than be loaded up with pork?

As a representative from the Coast, he probably should have just held his nose and voted for it regardless, but I never heard him say anything along the lines of the Fed shouldn't provide assistance to N.J.
