If true, he needs to be removed.
Darius Miles? Isn't he a NBA Player?
Messed up.

Alabama coach Nate Oats said Tuesday that Miller is “not in any trouble” as a result of his alleged involvement.

“We knew about that. Can’t control everything everybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out, Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time,” Oats said.

sounds like Oats puts more value on winning then holding his players accountable.

Not sure how bringing a gun to someone that is then immediately used in a murder is not some kind of crime.

Regardless, terrible look for Nate Oats to basically shrug it off like it's nothing
yeah seems like if the circumstances play out a certain way one could argue that is felony murder. (dont know much about this case specifically though)

and yep, not sure what kind of story the coach could have been fed to completely blow this off like there's no responsibility whatsoever on the kid...and that him not being a troublemaker in the past automatically means new issues can't get counted against him.

It's pretty insane. If you read the details of the article, Miller brought his gun to the scene at the request of his teammate, and then blocked in the victim's car with his car.

Nate Oats reaction today: "We knew this. He was in the wrong spot at the wrong time"

So a player provided someone with a gun (which is illegal even if you legally own the firearm) to someone who then used it to kill someone? This kid is facing hard time. Yet oates wont even suspend him!? Lol

Alabama fans (and the coach) are oblivious. If this happens at any Big Ten school the player is suspended immediately

In most states it's a clear cut accessory to murder charge just for providing the weapon. They are just sweeping it under the rug because it's a Bama player.

If the story continues to blow up the state AG may have to take over the case and charges could be different.

Alabama fans on Twitter are whining that the national media is "blowing this out of proportion" and "making this kid look bad".

If bringing a gun used to murder someone and blocking the victim's car in so they can't escape isn't accessory then what is?

You're glad to be in a conference with multiple major coverups of decades long abuse?

Every conference has their warts, we shouldn't try to uphold the B1G as the model of anything when facts say otherwise.

I think that this discussion is about this particular case. Don't see anyone here trying to sanctify the B1G 10. I'm sure that there are incidents in Ivy League schools. Like kids not paying parking tickets or something.

Nate Oats has “clarified” his comments. Still nothing about any potential punishments or further action.

“I thought it was important for me to clarify the unfortunate remarks I made earlier,” Oats said in a statement released by UA Athletics. “This entire time I’ve tried to be thoughtful in my words relative to this tragic incident, and my statements came across poorly.

“We were informed by law enforcement of other student-athletes being in the vicinity, and law enforcement has repeatedly told us that no other student-athletes were suspects – they were witnesses only. Our understanding is that they have all been fully truthful and cooperative.

“In no way did I intend to downplay the seriousness of this situation or the tragedy of that night. My prayers continue to go out to Jamea Harris’ family.”

As I read the story, Miller did not ”supply his weapon to a friend”. The gun belonged to Miles. Miles asked Miller to get it and bring it to him. Unless it is shown that Miller knew what the intentions were, I can see how he is not an accessory to the murder. Certainly all this is shady as hell and lets everyone see the culture at Alabama. Unfortunately nobody down there cares it seems.

Two people, including a player, are charged with capital murder. They aren’t sweeping anything under the rug. The story is Miller brought Miles a gun he legally owns without knowing it would be used in a murder. Oats offered an awful, poorly worded explanation, but still not a crime by Miller. And surely Oats will be required to take BS sensitivity training. Davon Clark knew of the crime, Miller did not.

Take off your conspiracy goggles. Sorry guys, major crimes get prosecuted in the south too, even for star athletes

I can only speak for myself, but if a buddy calls me and asks me to bring his gun down to the college bars, I’m more likely to call the cops than say “sure thing bro, be right there.” Why does that ethical standard not apply?

There are two things to consider here for Miller. The legal position and the university’s & team’s ethical position.
