Side bar question not to be included. Is it just me but during the late 60's or early 70's weren't there a number of ACC players from different teams that were either suspended or on probation for fighting. Seems like some of the players were Randy Denton of Duke, Lanny Stahurski ,UVA, John Roche and John Ribock, Carolina, Tom O'Brien , Md, and bill chamberlain from unc. I even tried looking it up and saw nothing. Jim can you help me on this one ? OFC

And to a lesser extent in the late 1960s, early 1970s. McGuire had a lot to do with that. He cultivated an us-against-them-mentality in his players, one that seemed to invite confrontation.

Anyway.
The ABA was going to start a team in Baltimore, the Claws.
Somehow, the ABA figured out a way to get Wise on the Baltimore (home-town) roster.
So, he left Clemson after one season, the Claws folded, Wise played a handful of games elsewhere, developed a serious heroin addiction, was released, spent some time in jail on drug-related offenses.
Remember the TV show, The Wire? I always expected them to have Skip Wise storyline.

Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, only 4 teams that started the tournament as the AP #1 team ended up winning the national title. Name the school and year of those four teams.
I think the question out there is part 2 reference where Jordan originally wanted to play for in college...

#1 team in 09 was actually Louisville. UNC would have been #1 if they didn't lose in the ACC Tournament. Pretty sure UNC was the #1 overall by the committee however.
#1 team in AP Poll in 07 was Ohio State. Although, I'm quite certain Florida was the #1 overall by the committee as well.
Georgetown's lone title came in 1984 - Jordan/Perkins' final season where they were the top dogs most of the season. 2001 Duke is correct, as is 92-Duke and 2012-Kentucky (in spite of the conf. tournament loss to Vanderbilt). There is one final team left on the board - which is probably the most challenging of the four.

I assume you mean 1990, Hart. UNLV was ranked #2 in the poll right before the Tourney; in front of them was Oklahoma.
Arkansas is another good guess, but much like UNLV, they were also ranked #2. Some team in Chapel Hill was ranked #1... not sure why they didn't win the whole thing though.
Maryland actually fell to #4 in the AP Poll after losing to NC State in the ACC Tournament; Duke was #1 going into the 2002 Tournament despite being behind Maryland two games in the ACC Regular Season (we had a better overall record, though, 29-3 vs. 26-4). Yuck. Still can't believe we lost to Indiana in 02.

UNC was at the top of the polls in 08. Well, I can't imagine this will take too much longer - as there are only so many 1 seeds that have won since 1985

MSU is a good guess, especially considering most people had them as the presumptive favorite going into the tournament. But they had the injury bug in the early part of the season and actually had 7 losses going into the dance. Duke was actually #1 going into NCAA's into 2000... and just for the record, we were the #1 ranked team four consecutive years in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002. Thanks to Matt Christensen, of course
That means UConn wasn't the #1 going into the 99 Tourney either. That was a really good UConn team we lost to though; I think both the Duke/UConn teams of 99 could have won every title game between 1997-2006 if they were facing the champion team of that respective year.
