So, I go on FEMA's website this afternoon and register. Six hours later a nice guy calls me and sets up an inspection for tomorrow at my home. Very timely. Bully good!

Now, I don't expect any help with the house... you know roof, framing.. other ****. That's State Farm's territory. Actually, I don't EXPECT any help whatsoever from the federal government cause I got this handled if need be. Been running a chain saw for 3 days and I swear I'm about to make a dent. But if they're offering to help remove the hundreds of hardwoods down on my property I wouldn't refuse.

Anybody got a heads up on what to expect?

Katrina hit August 29, and they inspected my house about mid-October. They really wanted to see how much water/storm surge I got (8 feet of surge), so they could make their newmaps. They gave me a little money (that they asked for back). Hung up on me when I was trying to get a temporary trailer.

I got my own trailer andrepaired my house. State Farm paid me for Wind damage, but did not pay for water surge. Thank God I had Flood Insurance (even though I do not live in a flood zone).

Anyhow, they were OK with me. Others said FEMA was a four-letter word.

Well, the screwed my family over on repairs and whatnot, but we didn't have water damage, so they were all right to us. However I know friends/family who have horror stories dealing with FEMA. MEMA is awesome though, so I hope you get to deal with them.

I will say that you probably won't have to argue over "wind-driven" water, so hopefully you'll be ok. Good luck with everything.

cleaned up some trees that were down. In a philosophical mood, yes, I am embarassed I took the help ($), but I wasn't strong enough to turn it down.
