What's the best recourse? The ticket notes a court date; is it worth going? Or is it better to just to pay the ticket and be done with it?

FWIW, I'm 100% guilty. I would love to get out of it, but I'm totally guilty.

You can try to fight it, but it won't work. You can go to a one hour class (for an additional $40) and they won't report it to your insurance company.<div>
</div><div>I fought mine all the way. It is about a four step process. If you get to the final step, the cop will be there as they get fined $100 for not being there for the "trial". I tied the cop up, proved she lied and the judge said it was my word against hers and he was siding with the cop.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm favor giving Jackson to Choke Lumumba for his new nation to get it out of the US. But Chokwe wants the US to cede Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the panhandle of Florida to him for his new nation. That turd should be off the Jackson city council and in Levenworth for treason.</div><div>

Do not think twice about this. The absolute least contact you can have with JPD or the City Court is the best possible outcome. Don't believe me? Ask a local attorney about his/her dealings. Better yet, some afternoon take a stroll to city court and just watch and listen. I can think of no greater affirmation that the end of civilization is near.

I paid a lawyer. First time I show up in court the judge dismisses the case. Lawyer told me if you ever get into trouble in Starkville, give me a call. I know some judges in that county. The lawyer I hired is currently serving a prison sentence for bribing judges.

There's no point in paying a lawyer, as the ticket would cost less, and even with a great lawyer the odds are against you.

if you know somone that can fix it, then you wouldn't be asking.

Traffic tickets are justice court, and justice court is a kangaroo court. if you didnt' know this already, congrats on being a sheep. This board can give you dozens of cases where the defense's case was proven, but the judge sided with the cop anyway, cause that's how justice court rolls.

unless you are a college student or professional bum, even with 50/50 odds it's not worth wasting multiple days to contest it. and the odds are nowhere near 50/50 even when you are innocent.

i've personally proven innocence in multiple ticketcases (i have horrible luck on that front, balance by my unbelievably good luck on DUI offenses), but never had a justice court judge give a damn. and while there i've watched the DUI defense lawyers get their clients reduced charges without the slightest effort. it's all worked out in judges chambers without the slightest effort. it's an obvious racket. if you're not in on it, then just pay the ticket and save yourself the time.

Tell them that you need to come to court because you were not speeding but that on your scheduled court date, you will be out of town on business. The week before the new court date, do the same thing. Do this as many times as they will let you.

I strung one out for over a year in Lexington MS a couple years back by doing this and then when I finally got to court, the cop was there, i was the last person to get on the stand, I pleaded my case, they dismissed both charges. Speed and Tint. Not that it matters but I was the only person of caucasion decent in the entire room and I was the only person that got any sort of leiniency from the Judge. I found that interesting because I almost expected a reverse racism thing to happen.

Tint ticket was easy to get out of. Even though it was illegal for MS, I explained it away with company car, another state, different levels allowed, yada yada yada, dismissed.
Speed was a little harder because he had an audio tape of me asking him to write the ticket for less if he could at the time of the scene. But I also said that I didn't think that I was speeding at all but I understood that his gun said otherwise, yada yada yada, appealed to their sense of authority, apologized, didn't want ticket on record because I drive a lot, company would be mad, so long ago memory unsure - Dismissed. Saved myself almost $400.00.

Since then - I just pay the thing.

I fought a ticket in Jackson years ago and actually wound up being found guilty, but since it was clear the the signs in the area were confusing and I was legitimately confused by the signs, the judge remanded it to file. I had to ask the bailiff as I was walking out what that meant and he said they hold the ticket for a year and if I get another one, I have to pay the first. After a year they throw it away. But I had to go to court 3 times, it took 4 months, and I spent probably a total of 6 hours on it.

Got a ticket a few years later where an ******* HP harrassed me for 3 miles up I-55 then finally pulled me over at County Line Rd., even though by then I wasn't speeding and I hadn't really been going all that fast to begin with. He gave me a ticket for Madison County court. I had a legitimate defense that I wasn't speeding in Madison County. But I decided pretty quick it would be just my word against his and I'd have to go all the way up to Canton 2 or 3 times so I just paid the ticket and moved on.

The one thing I came away with after seeing about 20 cases before mine is in Justice Court it doesn't really matter much what the law is or what the facts are. I saw people who were clearly guilty let go (including me) and I saw others who had a pretty good case have to pay the fine. </p>

Delay..delay........delay...................delay some more. Until they practically make you show up. Then if the cop doesn't show, you are in the clear.<div>
</div><div>If they do then do what I did in the past. Do some easy online research and find the stuff that should get the ticket dismissed. They are not going to because Justice Court is their cash cow and there should be a cash register bell ring every time another case is called. But there is satisfaction of sitting up there respectfully quoting laws and regulations to them and holding up their little dog and pony show.</div><div>
</div><div>Last time I showed up I showed that the cop was negligent in maintaining his radar according to manufacturer, Didn't follow guidelines, admitted that he wasn't positive that it was my car that he hit with the radar cause he lost sight of the person he did for 4 miles, and showed that the weather in which it was raining and at night showed that he couldn't be positive who it was.</div><div>
</div><div>Judge pulled out the whole "gotta side with the officer" quote because "he is trained to identify cars when he passes them" But it was fun to watch the judge's and the cop's face turn red when this hick from northern Lee county got the court room shaking their heads when they didn't drop the ticket. </div>

budget deficit. They make a killing during the day, sometimes they have them under several overpasses on both sides between Lakeland and County Line. Sloooow doooown if you are coming through that stretch from out of town or anywhere for that matter, or don't, and Catvet thanks your for your contribution to the J'town general fund.

than Madison or Ridgeland on I-55. Much more likely. The only place in Madison County I see cops regularly is around the Old Agency Rd. overpass right by Renaissance. They pull people over all the time.

But I do see JPD all the time under the overpasses. Especially be careful when it's not rush hour- not very many people can speed because of the traffic, so they can't give tickets out- or they're not supposed to.

Especially be careful around Briarwood Dr. and Northside Dr.
