I use them only for Internet, no cell phone or land line, and I pay around 25 bucks a month. I didn't do a lot of shopping around but I imagine that's pretty tough to beat.

you do not have to pay for a land line to have dsl. Obviously you ahve to have the physical phone line attached to your house but they don't make you have phone service like they used to.<div>
</div><div>Edit- that said. Check into UVerse to see if you have that available where you live. It's almost the same price as DSL for double the bandwidth.</div>

I get mine for $15/month for a year, then i'll cancel as it jacks up to $45. they claim you get 6Mbps, but it's not even that good. fast enough for espn3, but not much more.

supposed to be getting if for one year for $24.95. It's been a couple of months and it's still not down to that...keep charging me more. It's very good service wise.

If you call them you can get a better deal. I had a buddy I work with just sign up for UVerse internet only and they gave him the wireless gateway for free. He didn't pay anything to start and he too had the $24 a month deal (goes to like 50 after 12 months).<div>
</div><div>Regarding DSL. I still have it and never call to get the price lowered because my company foots the bill. I've started to notice it can't handle the bandwidth my family needs. 2 smarthphones, a laptop, a tablet, ipod, Wii, plus streaming espn3 and I can feel a slowdown.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm going to be going with uverse as soon as I have a few hours to deal with calling them.</div>

and told my boss that I didn't need internet access for personal reasons anymore and if they wanted me to be able to support our systems on call they would have to provide internet themselves. Bada bing, bada boom! Have business class cable internet that I haven't paid a dime for in over 10 years. That's the way you do it.

upgrade to UVerse. I'm paying $26.95 for the 1.5 DSL now and they want $100 for new modem and install plus the service will go to $38 but it will be 3.0 instead of the 1.5. My next move is to call them back and tell them some BS about what Comcast will give me and see if they will waive the $100 install/modem fee and discount it for 6 months

Definitely play their competition against them. I did it with my satellite service, and actually exaggerated how good of a deal the other company would give me. They matched it.

I've had U-Verse internet and cable bundled for the past 2 years, and the prices are VERY competitive. My internet is the fastest it's ever been, and the picture quality and channel selection beats the hell out of local cable. Also, call them and tell them you're thinking about switching from local cable, and they'll practically start fellating you, throwing special promo deals and stuff your way. Anytime I ever have any trouble with them (which is very seldom) they give me an additional discount or upgrade. It's great.

For the love of God, do not get AT&T internet. It is the shittiest internet service there is. Be warned! you will be forced to get off the couch every 5 minutes to reboot the router!

Agreed. They are the worst. I had DSL for the past three months because it was cheap but I barely got 1 mpbs. Watching YouTube videos was a chore. Switched to comcast for an extra $10 a month and am getting 20 Mbps download. And it's important to note that my bill was never what they told me it would be with AT&T. They always found a way to nickel and dime. Told me no installation fee but charged me anyway. Supposed to be no modem rental but charged for that too.

Sometimes being cheap will come back to bite you in the ***.

The alleged 6.0 I have from dsl is about the same as the 6.0 I had with cable. I have no real problems with either one, I kind of go with the cheaper. I sometimes switch back and forth for the introductory prices.

After a couple of years with dsl, my router died and they said I'd have to pay for a new one. When I told them to go ahead and cancel the service, they decided they could send a free modem.

I guess it is about time to switch for the promo rates...
