I'm looking to take the wife on an overnight trip to Dallas over the long weekend. Wanting advice on:
(1) A recommended nice, safearea of town to get a hotel to spend the night
(2) A recommendation for a good restauraunt to get a nice cut ofmeat
(3) Recommended hot spot for shopping. It's been years since i've been to dallas other than to simply use the airport. I know there's the Galleria but I was wondering if that was still the best place to shop.

Thanks for any help.

NAFOOM could load you up with some answers, especially since they've been to the Cotton bowl the last 2 years.

Stay in uptown Dallas or the Highland Park area. Great restaurants and bars. Shop at North Park Mall in Highland Park; the place is huge and has a whole wing dedication to high fashion designers if she's into that kind of thing. I got no recs about steaks, but Frankies is a great sports bar, Jake's is a great local burger place, and Breadwinner's Cafe is the best brunch I've ever had in my life.

Stay somewhere in Uptown Park / Highland Park / Turtle Creek / Preston Center

Steak ; Bob's Steak and Chop House, Pappas Brothers or III Forks are all great.

It's a chain...but a damn good one.

I'm not really a fan of steak but Fogo de Chao is pretty good. Again, a chain. It's an upscale Texas de Brazil. Sure, it's a steak buffet but it's a good one. If you want a classic, vintage steakhouse, I'm not one to give you advice.

In terms of a place to stay that is hip/ trendy/ good location/ safe... Try Hotel ZaZa in uptown. Great atmosphere there and a pretty good bar/ lounge on top of the pool at night. I had Nick and Sams for Valentine's day this year and will say that it is probably the best steak I've had from a restaurant... EVER. It was fantastic and not too bad price wise. Shopping there is Highland Park Village which is a pretty good upscale place and NorthPark Center is where I would recommend in terms of a mall setting. It has all the good stores.

Let me know if you need any other options. Other restaurants I would suggest are on Knox/ Henderson (East of 75) there are 3 restaurants right there that are really good (Victor Tangos, Hector's on Henderson, The Porch, and there is one other but I can't think of it). That's in my neighborhood so I can firmly recommend them. Also in that area (Knox/ Henderson, Greenville Ave, MStreets area) there are very few if any chain restaurants.
