OT: Att Uverse vs. Comcast.....case specific....

I know its been the board a million times, but I have a case specific question....

Is the ATT home internet slower than comcast? I currently pay about $54/mo for comcast....its speed is fine, just dont want slower (looking at their premium internet)

and the direct tv thru att.....I can pretty much get all the MSU games thru comcast on just about every network we play on....will I miss anything with the att/direct tv?.....looking at the 2nd highest programming package....

what I want most about the ATT/DTV is that I can get HD/DVR for my whole house for about $20/mo....if im reading correctly.....(10/mo HD access, $7mo DVR service, and the DVR whole house promo for $4/mo extra).....right now, I have comcast service at $85/mo and 2 HD DVRs and one costs me about $12/mo and the other is like $17, and to add another I think they want $24/mo....I think....

I need DVRs in 3-4 rooms with kids, and it seems comcast doesnt offer any kind of whole home DVR, and a la carting it with them is already very pricy....

as it stands now, we have 1 cell service with them, a primary home line costing me about $125/mo, and a fax line at about $55/mo....

so, as it stands, my 2 home lines with ATT cost me $180/mo, and my comcast bill with internet is costing me $180/mo

ive been doing it this way for some time now, but it seems like a no brainer to have all the services with one provider for the bundle savings.....Im most concerned with the TV signal and availability of games, and the internet speed with ATT....or going all in with comcast a better idea with their phone service?

thoughts please....

just noticed for comcast existing cusomters, I can go to their premier package with all the HBOs, etc, and get the phone service, keep the same lines, and all the HD DVR equipment and fees are free...for $200....

again, is there something I am missing here?.....or am I an idiot for having half my stuff with ATT and the other half with comcast?

I hope its the latter...

I have that bundle with Comcast. The only movie channel it doesn't come with is TMC. I'm happy with the package but once my promotion ends I'll be looking to change because I'm not paying full rate for everything I have now. It'll easily be $300 a month.

Don't overlook that Comcast now has decent pricing for non-cable customers. It used to be that they raped any internet customer who didn't also get cable service, but not anymore.

I have a home office with phone and fax #'s. Switch your land line to AT&T all distance plan (unlimited local and long distance) $40 a month. Add distinctive ring feature to you existing land line which will be a different # on the same all distance plan to be used for incoming fax. The phone rings two quick rings for incoming fax. Long ring for voice call. That would eliminate one phone bill and get you down to about $60 a month for two #'s.

I used to get all my work assignments via fax, but most are now emailed. My fax machine is becoming a dusty dinosaur.

To answer the original question, no u verse is not as fast as comcast. We are currently finishing our World of More upgrade and once complete we will offer services up to 105 meg download speed....u cant find that anywhere. Also we have launched the anyroom DVR mentioned above. Here in Jackson it should be launched around Christmas, hopefully. I am currently experimenting with one in my house right now. We just havent released to the customers yet. The hard drive is awesome though, it has twice the space our previous dvr's had.

Ok - questions.

When is the next update coming and what's going to be in it? I heard around earlyAugust.

So will we need to get new boxes to have anyroom DVR? And what is the fee going to be or will that be included?

AT&T has many more HD channels, a much faster internet, but the speed of the remote to the guide is not a quick as Comcasts which drives me crazy sometimes. AT&T was about 25 dollars a month cheaper. I have 3 HD DVR. I'm paying about 175. Comcast quoted me around 200, but with a slower internet speed. AT&T also has many more movie channels. They have like 12 HBO's ,11 Cinamax's, 10 Showtimes, 8 Movie Channels.....

I cannot figure it out. If I wanted to search for something, there used to be a feature I could use to look something up, either by the type program or sport. I cannot find that now.

I'm not a rep but a corporate trainer. As for the updates here in Jackson, August is a tenitive date some have tried to push....i would assume closer to Nov or Dec. It's not just as easy as pushing the upgrade out we have to get our specs in order first then its gonna happen fast. Actually here in Madison we're ready but a couple of other area we have to get in order before the roll out. Now as far as equiptment, you will have to have an anyroom dvr on the main tv and on all other tv's that u want to access the recorded content u will have to have one of the new xfinity hd box(stand def boxes are not equipted to communicate w the any room dvr. So the only box that u can contol recordings on is the any room dvr but u can watch your recording on all additional hd boxes in the house. We already have these products in a few other markets and i believe its 17.95/month in one market and 19.95 in the other.

Someone else mentioned doing a search in the new guide....just hit your menu button once and click on the magnifying glass icon to search for shows currently being broadcast.

Just too many games on CSS that you can't get with UVERSE, and if the DAWGS are on and I can't get the game, I am not a happy man.</p>

Yep, it's not as easy as pushing a button. But when Comcast tells it's customers that a new guide is "just around the corner" yet we are stuck with the SARA guide for 2 and a half years and haven't seen any HD additions in about that long, it's annoying when they never seem hesitant with that annual price increase.

I switched to Comcast when they bought out Suscom thinking being a national company we'd see new features quicker. Boy was I wrong. It seems like everything Comcast has rolled out in the Jackson market rolls around at least a year if not 2 years later than promised.

You live in Jackson and still have the SARA guide???? If so your box just didnt take the upgrade because we have the S25 guide now..the same every Comcast market in the South uses.

like how many HD shows can you record at once, etc. I know when I talked to them it lowered my capabilities I have by simply having two boxes.
