I am buying a new ATV. Currently have a 2007 low hours (144), low mileage (1083) Honda Rancher which is a great machine. However, all my riding group has gone to models with power steering (anti-kickback is helpful in the Rockies, especially for someone over 70). Not much price difference. I'm looking at Polaris 550, Yamaha 550 Grizzly, and another Honda Rancher (420 cc). All have PS, EFI, 4WD, AT, and dual rear suspension.

Any opinions appreciated.

I just bought the 2012 Honda 500 foreman without power steering. All i use mine for is hunting and pulling a boat to the river so power steering was pointless for me. I see where it would be nice on long rides but to be honest if your going through the woods pretty fast(like I have to do to cut the dogs off when we are running deer) that power steering will throw you.

Honda. I have a 1990 300 Trax 4x4. In 22 years I have probably changed the oil and spark plug 2 or 3 times and that was after stalling the engine under water. Replace the battery every 4 or 5 years and that thing starts every time and keeps on going.

Honda ATVs have in common. The ATV's that Honda made in the early 90's were absolutely bulletproof. What they make today is nothing like it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think what Honda makes today is any worse than any other manufacturer but they are absolute trash compared to their products of the early 90's.

Don't believe me? Go talk to a mechanic that has worked on all of them.

I did a quick google search but didn't see anything. It may be worth putting in a call to your local ATV shop, especially if you know how to turn a wrench.

I've never done any rock crawling on an ATV but have done my fair share with old Land Cruisers and Jeeps. You really do need power steering and a pressurized fuel system when wheeling off camber.

Let me know what you come up with.

you'll never take it to the shop if you know how to service it. They are simple and easy to work on. Dont try to be a hero and reinvent the wheel.
