Stay in downtown somewhere. Aquarium near the river, kids discovery/science museum, minor league ball park, lots of great restaurants. Footbridge over the river to a small park and arts community on the other side.<div>
</div><div>The Chattanooga Choo-Choo is nice, but not walking distance to everything. There is a courtyard marriott near the aquarium that is nice.
<div>
</div><div>Make a day trip to lookout mountain and hit rock city and/or ruby falls.</div></div><div>
</div><div>For a really nice drive, check out Cloundland Canyon in Trenton, GA. Then take the lookout mountain highway all the way into chattanooga along the top of the ridge.</div>

Ruby Falls is vastly overrated. Younger kids probably will not appreciate it for the time it takes to finally see the actual falls, especially the way they hurry you through it at the end and the way they drag out the walk to it. Downtown Chattanooga is great though. The Imax is very kid friendly. It blows away any other "3D" experience.

Sticky Fingers barbecue for some good ribs, pulled pork, etc for dinner one night. They also have a good kids menu I think. For lunch, I wish I could remember the name of the little bar and grill downtown that was family friendly, but had some great beers on tap and great appetizers and lunch type foods. It's on one of the corners downtown if you want a beer but also want some fairly inexpensive food with a lot of food choices that your kids can enjoy.

We went for a family gathering, but my wife and I split away and spent a day downtown and had a lot of fun. You should have no problem finding things to do....mainly the things listed in the previous posts.... (kcomphlint's post is spot on)

We always eat there when we are in Chattanooga. There is one in nashville too, i think. Terminal Brewhouse is supposed to be good too, but not exactly in downtown.
