Me and the family are going down there later this week. Been there once before but didnt eat out to much.
Don't want to eat at chain restaurants that are in almost every town. I want to try a few local places.
Let me know your favorites!
Thanks for the help

The Red Bar, Stinky's Fish Camp, Bud and Alley's...

And for the early-bird specials, The Ocean Club..

I'll be going down next week. We've been before, but only for a few days at a time, not for a whole week. I know more about where to not eat than where to eat. I will say to avoid The Crab Trap and Joe's Crab Shack. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat our first night down last time at Joe's and it felt like fast food quality at moderate (~10-20 bucks a meal) prices. The Crab Trap has all the trappings of a family friendly restaurant on the beach, but you're going to end up waiting for horribly cooked seafood.<div>
</div><div>I do recommend McGuire's. It's relatively family friendly (unless you're a type who thinks booze makes a place automatically family unfriendly) and there's something there for everyone. It's also one of the few good restaurants that isn't a seafood type of place.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm real curious about what 'value' restaurants might be down there. I've read a lot of recommendations for where to take a lady out for dinner, but knowing the little hole in the wall that sells the best lunch at under $10 can lead to a food experience every bit as worthwhile.</div>

I've only been a couple times so I'm anxious to see what everyone else says, but generally following your criteria my family likes

AJ's

Cafe Gratzi on Highway 98, not the one at Sandestin

and LaPaz

These may be more semi-local than 100 percent authentically local, but we like them.

I echo Red Bar, they only have like 5 things on the menu a night, but each item is amazing.

Also Pandora's steakhouse there in Grayton Beach is good!

Local Catch on 30 A is also good!

My wife and I just got back from Seaside Sunday and there are several good places on 30A. Like others have mentioned, Red Bar in Grayton is always good; somewhat of a tourist trap, but good. Cafe 30A is very good, but pricey. Bud and Alley's is the best combination of food and atmosphere in my opinion. DO NOT go to 723 Whiskey Bravo. It's a new place on 30A past Seaside and it is pure garbage.

These all depend on where you are staying. Big difference between Destin, Sandestin, and Grayton Beach.

For the Sandestin Area

Cantina Laredo: I have heard more people rave about this mexican. It's not cheap greasy more authentic. Great change from Seafood one night.

Louis Louis: Owned by the same guy who has the Redbar not quite the drive. Menu is the same. Atmosphere isn't quite the hole in the wall quaint feel but if you don't want to drive to redbar do this.

For Grayton Beach area I'm assuming you probably have a house, so I would hit up Stinkys Fish market and grill or cook my own stuff a lot.

Cantina Laredo is EXCELLENT, I got married on the beach in Destin last October and we actually had them cater the Rehearsal dinner. I got to do all the picking of food for rehearsal.

We also really enjoyed Vintage and their wine selection last time we were there. If you want a really good but expensive meal the Beach Walk Cafe at Henderson Park Inn is the place. Their Grouper Vince (think of Grouper with a praline coating) and their flash fried potatoes are divine.

Harbour Docks has great fresh fish and some of the best sushi I have ever eaten.

Its an out of the way place which is maybe the best seafood in the panhandle...Its called Nicks. From Destin, take the bay bridge north, after going over the bridge at the main intersection you'll turn right (Hwy 20). You'll drive about 12 -14 miles and its on the right. For you GPS'ers the little community is called Basin Bayou. Now its a VERY local joint, concrete block walls, oyster shell parking lot and basically in the middle of nowhere. However, its been open for over 40 years. You don't make it down there that long without top notch food. The first thing you'll notice is every tag in the parking lot is local. They are locally known for blue crabs, raw oysters and boiled shrimp. But also have several fish of the days and its always, very ,very fresh. Its a jeans and t kinda place. So fix a nice drink, and take about a 20 minute ride. The entire ride is along the bay front so its somewhat scenic. Seriously, the best place down there that they don't want tourists to know about. I highly recomend starting with a dozen on the half shell, along with the sauteed crab claws to get started. They do have beer but no liquor.

Several of the suggestions are good. Dewey Destin, Harbor Docks, Stinkys and McGuire's are my favorite i've seen suggested. Personally, i'd stay away from AJ's. I'm just not a fan.<div>
</div><div>Just a couple more i've not seen suggested, Camille's at Crystal Beach (owned by the same person who owns Harbor Docks),Gilligan's(this is a little wooden building on the harbor but good and would be good for kids too). One person suggested Pandora's on the Island for a steak. Pandora's is really good but a place called Seagars is the best steak around. Seagars is expensive but good. Also on the Island is High Tide and its a good local place. </div><div>
</div><div>I live in Fort Walton Beach and if I could only have one meal in the area I would go to a place called Louisiana Lagniappe. Without a doubt my favorite place in Destin. </div><div>

Stinky's Fish Camp on 30A is the best for dinner. He has the largest fish selection down there & will cook it anyway you want it. Also, if you drive a little further there are lots of cool little places in Seaside,FL for lunch.

Go to Camille's. It is the same road the mid-pay toll bridge is on, but right down on the beach (coming from the bridge, go straight across HWY 98 and it is on the right when the road t's with old 98). It shares a building with a hotel. It is great. The sushi is awesome, and so are the brick oven pizzas (sounds weird, but they are both good - just dont mix). They also have great prices saki bombs.

I love Dewey Destin's (the one on the bay, not the harbor) and Acme Oyster House. We also love the restaurant on Navarre (just over the bridge as you make the curve and on the left) but I can't remember the name.
