All joking aside this is an amazing achievement. I predict within 10 years the cost of this type trip will be affordable for most. It is amazing how much better this will be when run by the private sector and its innovation due to competition.

We did alright with public sector, competition, and innovation 60 years ago. I'm against government spending more than the average guy, but one place where it's always been a great bang for your buck was in NASA.

Imagine where we would be had the 1960's investment level continued in NASA.

Waste isn’t a way to get to great achievements. You can have failures without waste and get to great achievements.

But you missed my point entirely which doesn’t surprise me. Why is NASA different than most other gov organizations.

Why do they pay more? Or why do others pay less and have way too many people working.

If they don’t pay more, why do they get better talent than the others (I’m assuming they pay more).

Example - MDEQ of Mississippi paid **** for first year engineers out of college in 2007 (even with a masters degree). Then your yearly raise was ****. Occasionally there was a cost of living raise. OCCASIONALLY. A 4th engineer at DEQ was only slightly paid more than a first year.

To move up? Time. Nothing to do with performance unless time was equal.

6 engineers doing the job 4 could easily do. Likely 3.

For a solid year I did 20 hrs worth of actual work a week…..maybe.

I would imagine those places pay more also. I would imagine paying more and getting better people also makes them more efficient by default.

Do they have the efficiencies of most private run companies? Probably not but compared to other gov organizations they get more bang for their buck.

What that graph tells me is that space isn't as big of a draw as we'd thought it might be. And all this talk about building settlements on Mars is a waste of time.
