Having grown up around alcoholism in my family I read this article about CC Sabathia's recent troubles with binge drinking and potential alcoholism with much interest.

Does anyone else not buy into CC's version of what may be the real truth about his situation ? Is this his lawyers version of CC's best defense to collect on the rest of his contract ?

He's collected $80 million plus since 2012. With that kind of cash comes real responsibility and anything beyond mild social drinking when you're a world class athlete is unacceptable. He should have addressed this four years ago.

I think the Yankees should do everything in their power to get out of the contract and sue him for money paid for services that completely lacked the professionalism and conduct required to deliver on the contract.

Glad he finally got sober. Shameful he cheated his talent, the team paying him, the game and his family, for as long as he did.

Who cares? Does C.C. worry about anybody on this Board?
Doesn't bother you that every two weeks a check hit the Sabathia mailbox with the numbers, $500,000 on it and he he's depositing it in between nights of sucking down 20-30 drinks?

Guys a loser. He cheated his talent and he sure cheated the Yankees who paid him to be among the best starting pitchers in baseball. I can't remember the last time the highest price guy at any position in baseball just flagrantly didn't give a crap like this overweight toad.

I'd like to hear from Ellsbury's attorney cause at least CC won them a championship...Ellsbury at 7 HR - 33 RBI's for 153 million has to be a crime in some state...

No idea if this is the whole truth but do know there is absolutely no way for the Yankees to avoid paying CC going forward.

Number one -
Thirty-five year old CC's knee is CC's guarantee that he will collect on the rest of his contract - he has almost no cartilage under his kneecap, and that knee will require constant maintenance, including PRP shots and procedures to drain fluid when there is swelling.

Number two -
What he gets in 2016 is not really challenge-able - what goes on in 2017 - TBD - the bulk of what might be an 'out' for the Yankees actually revolves around pre-existing issues with his shoulder.

Didn't read the article but CC went 74-29 over the first 4 years of his Yankees contract. He also was the best pitcher in the 2009 Championship team. He was worth every dollar and didn't rob anything.

Presumably his fall off can be attributed in part to drinking but it is far more likely that his age, body size and the fact that he was an absolute bulldog for more than a decade were the cause(s). He went through a stretch of 5 years where he never pitched less than 230 innings. They don't make guys like him anymore.

Cc was money well spent because he was key on the championship team . Now to the alcohol abuse : sorry , I don't have any sympathy for the guy. He chose to take those drinks and the next one and the next one . No one held a gun to his head to keep drinking . And yes I have alcoholics close to me

Yankees will get their money back from CC right after they collect on money paid to Mickey Mantle. I am sure they are finalizing that paperwork as I type this...
