OT: Cellular Game Camera

I’m looking to add one to my lineup this year. Which are the best as far as signal reception, photo quality, battery life and data plans? I hunt around Rodney, MS and have AT&T for my phone and reception is spotty. What is the minimum reception requirements? Thanks Pack!

We have a couple of Covert game cameras with Att data plans. They’re good cameras and come with good antennas. One is in a poor reception area and gets through just fine. The only thing is they go through some batteries pretty quick.

Make sure there is good cell service where you plan to put them. At one of my deer camps, there is 0 coverage from any cell provider and I can see the lights of Greenwood from all stands.

Concur with Desoto. I have 6 Coverts. You can get an antenna extension that helps significantly. One of my tracts only has three spots with cell coverage so they make a difference for sure! Also, get the solar panel. As in, make it a priority. Use rechargeable batteries(AA). I rarely have to visit my cameras with this set up.

I have a couple of browning scout pros on the Verizon network. I get good reception and good pics. Just had to download the Strikeforce wireless app, and I can manage the cameras through it.

ETA: I’ve had one up since March, with energizer lithium AA batteries, and it is still going strong.

Between me and my dad we have 10 SPYPOINT micros.. for $100 each when they go on sale which is often they are hard to beat. Have both Verizon and LTE ones and both work fine. Data plans are pretty reasonable. Picture quality is sub par but can get a good idea of how good any buck is. Have an app to set and manage everything. Run lithium batteries and they will last a while. We run a 12v battery pack on ones on feeders though.

Yeah Tacta has really impressed me and it’s affordable. No issues with the quality and durability. All that’s running right now and in the future. Nothing like that alert going off. Got deer sending me more text than people. Times have changed for the better.

Agreed.

Also on the “no cell service thing”, the tactacam cameras have a lot better antennas from the factory than a cell phone. AT&T has sketchy cell service at my camp, but my AT&T tactacams work every time with good service, even though I greatly prefer Verizon.

I had 12 cameras running on protein or licks on 12v battery packs when I left town 5 weeks ago. 5 tactas, 3 link micros, and 4 cell links on browning dark ops cameras(I had 3 old bucks last year that absolutely hated the red flash). All the tactacams are still rolling. While half the spypoints are. And it’s never as easy as just plugging it back in running a spypoint on 12v power. Will have to reformat and flash them im sure.
