Anyone here take there cornbread and put it in a glass with milk?

I grew up in central Florida but my wife is from MS. Her entire family eats cornbread like this but it seems odd to me. Is this just her family or this a MS thing?

I just had a glass of milk and cornbread this afternoon. It's one of my favorite snacks.

I still eat it that way sometimes, usually as a snack later in the evening. I prefer it in sweet milk; never cared for buttermilk.

I still eat it a couple times a month. Can’t do the buttermilk though. Cornbread has to be warm with the milk cold. A nice chunk of onion on the side makes it even better. It one of those meals like chocolate gravy and biscuits, if you didn’t grow up eating it it just sounds awful, but if you grew up eating it then there’s something about eating 30 years later that takes you back and makes you proud to have been raised the way you were.

Love some cornbread and milk,

17 Buttermilk, except to cook with as needed.

I would not drink buttermilk on a bet. Hate that ****.

Taste's very.

Make the cornbread with buttermilk dip it in regular milk. Or better yet, drop it in a batch of southern black eyed peas

Yep, my grandfather ate it that way.

Had anyone heard the old wives' tale that you can't drink milk while eating fish? That's what the old timers used to say.

I remember seeing that for the first time when I moved to Mississippi. Same time I was introduced to chocolate gravy.

This is the answer. Buttermilk cornbread. Take one piece and crumble it up with some fresh black eyed peas. Take another piece and crumble it into a glass and pour some sweet milk over it. Add some fresh sliced tomato to the cornbread and peas, and you've got a meal.

And if you don't call it "sweet milk," you're probably a carpetbagger.

I love my cornbread and I love milk but no way am I mixing the two. And, the only way I'll eat buttermilk is when I make cornbread.

Peanuts in coke is good too. It's a little better if you use RC Cola. And I'm a little more partial to cashews.

Yes, that's right. My father did this all the time. He'd break the cornbread into huge chunks and eat them as he drank the milk from the glass.

You can also crumble your cornbread into a bowl of turnip greens and turnips.

Just make sure you have plenty of pot liquor in there to soak into the cornbread.

A small slice of heaven.

My dad still does cornbread and buttermilk and says he'd like "some good ole clabbered milk."

Well, I don't smoke, so we're in the clear. But I do like Vienna sausages and crackers as a snack when I'm hunting or fishing. And if you're ever outdoors for a long period of time and it's hot outside, take along a can of raviolis or spaghetti and meatballs and put it in the window of your vehicle until lunch time. A perfect hot lunch. And moon pies are the **** - but I prefer the banana ones. The chocolate ones are for the city folks.

I have plenty of redneck life hacks if you need them.

My Dad, who is 96, did the cornbread with half sweet and half buttermilk along with a bite of onion with salt. This was always as a snack later after supper around 8pm.

Me... I never got into the buttermilk thingy but I do like the bite of onion dipped in salt on the side and always as a snack, never part of the meal. I love it, my wife thinks I am crazy.

I have not been introduced to chocolate gravy yet...

I’ve tried the cornbread and milk and it’s not bad, it’s just not good either. I think it’s a nostalgia thing.

I'd like the see the overlap of a venn diagram of people that like cornbread in buttermilk vs people that wash their hair in the sink. I'm going with a total eclipse.

Surely this doesn't add much to the identification. Is there any real American that doesn't like vienna sausages on crackers?

Yes. Me.

Dear old Dad ruined me on certain foods. Some of his “recipes” turned me off venison and other “Southern delicacies” until recently.

So you now recognize the errors of your ways and like venison and vienna sausages? Or do I need to figure out how the blocking/ignore function on here works?

Love milk and cornbread. Sweet for me but my dad always had to have buttermilk. Pork cracklings cooked in cornbread is heaven on earth. Grew up next to a dairy farm, fresh milk tastes nothing like the milk you buy in a store, it has so much cream and fat in it, it's almost thick Souse meat on a saltine cracker with a little yellow mustard smeared on top is fantabulous.
