OT: Currently driving 2012 Chevy crew cab 4wd. Looking at other options

Two friends I hunt with are currently dealing with engine issues in their Chevy's, albeit they have 150k on their engines. Anyhow, I hate the way mine shifts and I just generally don't like it compared to other Chevy trucks I've owned. Do any of your drive full size Toyota's or Fords and are you happy with them? I'm currently looking at both. THe Ford has the 3.5 ecoboost in it.

I apologize for the off topic discussion, but I'm trying to get as much input as I can.

I have the F-150 with the ecoboost and I love it, feels more powerful than the 5.0. Another great thing about the truck is that the back seat is more spacious than any truck I've ever seen. Comes in handy with carseats and whatnot.

Bunch of farmers in Delta now have full size Toyotas in the gas burner category. They have a great towing package and evidently good fuel mileage.

+1 for Tundra

Used to be a Chevy guy, but they're junk compared to the Yoda. I looked at the F-150s before I got my Tundra (2012 Crew Max 4x4), but the 5.0 left much to be desired, and I couldn't get used to the idea of a V-6 with turbos. I'm hoping that Toyota comes out with a half ton diesel option in the future, like Dodge and Nissan.

Where are these farmers because everyone here is either Chevy or Ford diesels. There's no way I'd have a gas burner now with the things I have to pull.

Hold off one year. Nissan will be turning out a redesigned titan with a Cummins diesel engine option. They will also be offering a Cummins diesel option on the Frontier as well with a projected 30% increase in fuel economy.

2008 Tundra Crew Max. It is not as plush as the Chevys but in every other catagory I think they are better.

One thing to keep in mind about diesels is That they are far more expensive to maintain than the gas burners. They last longer and they get more power and better economy, but modern diesels have a ton of electronic systems and if something goes wrong, you will pay out your *** to fix it.

My family farms, and three relatives involved got Ford trucks 3 or 4 years ago; first time driving Fords ever, or at least in a very long time. They all switched to GMC's this year. They said the Fords didn't ride nearly as well as the GMC's. My cousin's F-250 was a total piece of ****; it would vibrate like it had square wheels at times.

I know it's not a truck, but my wife has a 4 cylinder eco-boost Explorer. She's averaging under 19 mpg over the life of the 3 year old vehicle. I'm averaging 17.2 on the life of my 6 year old Tahoe. Granted she's the poster child for a gas guzzling driver, but I expect better from that vehicle.

Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the Ford.

From what people with Toyotas tell me the reason they never break down is because the recommend scheduled maintenance is very extensive and costly. We have had all types of trucks on the farm and outside of the 7.3 and 6.7 powerstrokes I liked the Eco boost the best

We have been mostly Chevy/GMC until my uncle decided to buy an F-250. He's had it for about three years now and says he will be going back to a Chevy for his next truck. I've had a 2006 duramax and now have a 2012 duramax and have had zero trouble but my dads duramax has had all kinds of electronic troubles. He is happy he is getting a 2015 GMC Duramax next week with the new look and interior.

Toyota just builds a better product. 60-80k on a GM alternator is usually guaranteed. It's the little things like tailgate latches and Ac switches breaking that turned me away from GM products.
If I HAD to buy one if the top 3 today I would buy a ford though.

Yeah my dad's has had all kinds of electronic troubles but GM has covered it every time. They admitted it was a major flaw and would cover anything that happened to it.

You can get 250k miles out of a dodge even, as long as you take care of it, but nothing is going to work like it should after 100k and it's going to sound like its falling apart.

A Toyota will still work like new after 100k miles and beyond.

Plus its not like you're buying a "foreign" truck. They are built in Texas with over 75% of the parts coming from US suppliers.
