Where to go eat? Quality of food matters.

Go to Apothecary for a pre meal cocktail. It's a speak easy type bar in the back of Brent's Drugs. Then I'd head to Ely's in Ridgeland. Great food and drinks at both places and both owners are Bulldogs.

Yep, I know the Shapley's. They're in consideration.

Anjou
Ely's
Parlor Market
Table 100

What's best- like a good steak, like Italian- kinda general. I never really get out, haven't been to many of the nicer restaurants around.

Try out Creshale's for old school jackson dining--unless you're dating Catvet.

Last time I was there I saw one of these (or something close too it):

Crechale's is good, been there once. Want to do something different. Done Walker's. Done Biaggi's (not good).

Haven't been to Mint (heard it sucked), haven't really eaten at Julep, haven't been to Tico's.

Anyone been to Fondren Public?

Anjou is ok at best. If money doesn't matter at all I go to Ely's or Shapley's. If it matters some I go Julep or Creshales. Walkers and T100 are good too but if I'm forking major coin, I'd go to the first 2 I mentioned. As bad as folks on here talk about Mint, I really like Julep and recommend it.

Probably not date night but worth mentioning is Sways out Lakeland. Are there the other night. Pretty good food with a pretty wide menu selection. Anybody else eaten there?

Walkers is my vote.

If quality of food is important:
1) Parlor Market
2) Walker's
3) Bravo
4) Table 100

Anjou is disappointing (unless you have a Carter Jeweler's gift certificate**).

Ah, forget the Mayflower. Keep meaning to try it.

Agreed on Fratesi's; I get it fairly regularly. Seems like the food quality has gone down recently. I hate that, because when it's good it's good.

Definitely have to hit Shapley's/Ely's before I leave- family friends, just never have the money for it.

Went with the Apothecary. Ran late because of meetings and junk, so we ended up staying there. It was okay... Wasn't sure which drink to order, they all had something I'm not sure I ever tried. Drink was okay, wouldn't get it again, but it was a neat little place. Food was good, but expensive for the amount I think- definitely heed the advice of grab a drink and go somewhere else.

Still glad I went there; didn't know that's where that was. Walking distance from school. Been wanting to go to Brent's.

Fondren Public is good for beers. Food options are limited by design. Many friends have gone to the Apothecary and they've said great things about it & I keep meaning to go sometime even though I'm more of a beer guy...

Try Babalu for food since you're often in the area-- it hadn't been mentioned by others as far as I know...

Sway's is pretty damn good. Great comeback dressing on salads. I'd say sways is a good place to eat for lunch and dinner. But I think of date night when you are trying to impress
Here we go
1. Shapley's - my wife's fav and mine
* Ely's
* Nicks
* Amerigo
* Kathryn's
* Fratesi's. - my favorite little hole in the wall place to go.

Mayflower isn't that cheap either but BYOB helps a lot. If you like broiled

saltwater fish it is the best choice and by special request you can ask the waitresses to be extra rude for a small additional charge*.

Used to be the most awesome place in Jackson metro when 2 guys from Greenville owned it. Had the coldest beer ever.

I miss the pubdate.

Mayflower or Kathryn's for redfish. Fratesi's for Italian. I've only done brunch at Anjou and Mint but enjoyed both. The Brunch Burger at Mint with a fried egg was killer plus they have a champagne bar.

You miss the Pubdate more than Lisa..

..the redneck hot bartender serving up profane laden insults and death glares when improper form was used when placing a beer order?

Apothecary kind of has a hipster feel to it. Just a warning. Wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when we walked in ha. Hard to describe.

Considering that many of my friends in question who like it might be called hipsters, I'm not surprised one bit by your description.

Edit to add: I belatedly realized I did Fondren Public a disservice by merely saying that they're good for beers. It's a great beer bar. Food options are indeed limited by design. Try the sliders. Pork is perhaps the best followed by vegetarian and hamburger. I didn't care too much for the chicken slider I had.
