My folks have DirecTV and have always enjoyed it, but I likely will never go that route because I don't like the prospect of a perpetual "oh I'm cancelling because you're going to jack up my rate" process every year. It's nice if you watch a LOT of TV, but most of what I watch is available on streaming services the day after it airs. Given my wife works nights now, I usually wait to watch with her. I hate Suddenlink with a passion. Their service isn't that great. They cut all Viacom channels (of which I only watched Comedy Central - but they lost a lot of what made me want to watch). Their customer service calls at the most random times. In fact, last week I had just laid down for a nap after work and my phone is blaring a call from a random number. We'd just closed on our house so I thought it was a bank or something. Nope. Suddenlink. "This is Suddenlink and we see you have TV and internet with us..." I cut the lady off and said "And I won't for much longer if you all keep calling me with dumb ****." I'm paying $120 for their 100MB internet service and standard HDTV plus HBO and Cinemax. They cap their data for internet at 450GB for their max service. So they've built in a safeguard against those who stream a lot. F*** Suddenlink and I hope Comcast buys them out, because even though Comcast is the Evil Empire, I never had a quarrel with their service or face-to-face customer service. In summation, I will go to Sling once networks and a few more packages are added.
