OT: DNA Testing for Ancestry

There used to be a poster who knew a guy who did DNA testing on suspicious panties. Might save you a few bucks.

I did and was surprised. I had been told that we had a couple of great-greats that were Native American. Turned out I was half British with the rest being Irish and French with only a tiny amount of what could be Native American.

My nephew submitted his dna to ancestry about six months ago to find out more about his real father. About two months ago a first cousin pops up. Long story short turns out in the late 80's when I was in the military stationed at NAS Cecil field in Florida......one of many drunkin nights, as many military guys do, I ended up with some girl. Said female got shipped out to Germany a week later without knowing she was pregnant and when she found out she couldn't find me since the first name she knew me as was my middle name. She got married and the child only knew him as her real father up to about ten years ago. She has been looking for her biological father for roughly ten years and by the stroke of luck she finds me. We have subsequently taken another dna test which confirmed she is in fact my daughter. She is flying here Memorial Day weekend and we'll finally meet.

Entertainment value only

Have any of you had your DNA tested for ancestry/genealogy? I'm considering having it done but haven't decided which company to go with. The reviews I've read seem to rank the top four as: (1) MyHeritage, (2) Ancestry, (3) LivingDNA, and (4) 23andMe. I am not interested in any of the medical results, only the ancestry/genealogy aspects. Any comments or suggestions?

And have found only people looking for entertainment and curiosity. You came in at the very end to "inform" us of what we had already assumed.
