OT: Duke Farms eagle laid her first egg this afternoon

Not really. There’s always a lot of interest in this in our area, the Eagle Cam is used as a great teaching tool in local schools and the resurgence of the Bald Eagle in NJ is one of America’s best wildlife conservation stories. It’s okay to sit out a thread that doesn’t interest you once in awhile.

One of the best things I've ever done on this board was to put the clown you're responding to on IGNORE.
I've generally found that life improves so much the more you can limit interactions with jagoffs.

Yes, the first eaglet was huge and initially punished the small one for food. Hopefully all three are flourishing in the wild.

Was watching the camera yesterday and noticed there were several times when no parent was sitting on the eggs so I did some googling:
Intermittent delayed incubation is a bird strategy where parents partially incubate eggs (often the first) until the clutch is complete, slowing early embryo development so all chicks hatch closer together (asynchronous hatching), reducing sibling competition, seen in Bald Eagles and raptors. Fresh eggs can pause development in a "zone of suspended development" (around 50°F/10°C) without harm, allowing parents to delay full-time warmth until the last egg, ensuring more uniform hatching and better survival for younger chicks.

You can barely see the top of ma's head. It's amazing what those birds can handle.
