Determination of "break even" is not binary. Again with numbers you can play that a lot of ways. The same question you pose can be applied to any new power generation station you install today. I can tell you for certain, there is a lot of investment in all forms of energy generation --- wind, nuclear (fission), geothermal, hydro, etc.are people actually hyping windmills?

looks like people are really misinformed on energy consumption for energy production. Each windmill takes over 2 decades to break even on total energy inputs vs outputs.
As to impact though, wind production is real. Texas energy production alone is now 30% wind.
