What's everyone impressed with so far now that the Fall tv season has hit?

Being a fairly new dad, I had high hopes for Up All Night but I've been pretty underwhelmed so far. I'm disappointed in Terra Nova also, though I kind of expected that. It's a somewhat interesting story, but I think they're overdoing the special effects/animation and sometimes it looks downright ridiculous. I feel like its yet another attempt to appease the Lost crowd, but it's just not very well done. Lots of things that don't make any sense(not in a good way) and again, it just feels like like they're trying way too hard to visually impress rather than keeping it simple and adding a little mystery.

On the flip side, I think the new seasons of Modern Family and Happy Endings are great, and the premiere to American Horror Show last night kicked ***. I thought that it was going to be a one season and done, but now I'm not so sure. They've got all kinds of things going on in that show, and I'm hooked already. They took it pretty far in terms of sex/language for a cable show also. Now I'm looking forward to season 2 of Walking Dead.

Parks and Rec has a really good cast. It takes some getting used to for some folks. The Office is still decent; it seems to be better than previous few seasons, but we're only 2 episodes in. Modern Family is good, as always. I'm also not ashamed to say that Whitney has impressed me, despite the cheezy laughter coming from the the live studio audience.

I watched American Horror Story last night, and I'm indifferent on it. It has potential, but I wasn't too impressed. However, I had trouble going to sleep last night because of some weird noises in my house, so I guess the show did its job.

I've tried watching Up All Night, but couldn't even muster a chuckle, so I've given up on that.

where she was making her boyfriend fill out paperwork had me rollin. It definitely has potential.

Yeah, I didn't think that American Horror Story was all that great from a fear factor perspective, but I thought it had a lot of interesting story lines going. The psycho kid who's becoming friends with the daughter, the maid who's seen as two different people by the husband/wife, the weird lady neighbor with the down syndrome kid who seems to know all about the house... Not to mention WTF was going on when wifey got 17ed by the bondage ghost? Is the new baby going to be dad's or the ghost's?

That said, there is nothing that pisses me off more when a show/movie mentions partial nudity and then not only does it end up being a dude's ***, but then they show it multiple time. Also, don't think I've ever seen a show scheduled for one hour eleven minutes. That was a little odd.

I was afraid it would be typical for a network sci-fi show - the cheese factor was off the scale. The attempts to appeal to the younger crowds were transparent and silly. Just not too impressed. Will give it another week or two and see if it gets better.

"Person of Interest" is kind of interesting. The wife got me to watch that with her.

Favorite show is still Boardwalk Empire.

I might have to give American Horror Story a try. Missed it last night.

As for the partial nudity, I was also severely disappointed. I did appreciate the ginger maid getting herself off; too bad we weren't able to do a carpet/drape comparison. I think part of the reason I didn't enjoy it as much was because my wife, who hates scary movies, was griping about it the whole time.

Sunny - still good but not AS good<div>Parks n Rec - great</div><div>Office - great</div><div>Whitney - no thanks - recording cancelled</div><div>Up All Night, meh, will keep watching for a while</div><div>Modern Family - great</div><div>SAMCRO - really 17ing intense this year. One of the best on TV right now. </div><div>American Horror Story - recorded, have not watched yet</div><div>Terra Nova - see Up All Night</div><div>Charlies Angels, Suburgatory, Revenge - cancelled in the Azzurri household</div><div>Pan Am - not bad so far</div><div>Playboy Club - ditto</div><div>
</div><div>The Sing Off - one of my favorite reality/competition shows</div><div>X-Factor - meh</div><div>
</div><div>Meant to record - Person of Interest - so that is pretty good?</div><div>Then of course my wife has Greys/Private Practice/Glee etc. etc. all recording too.</div><div>
</div><div>Which brings me to a question. Is there any show that makes your skin crawl as much as The Real Housewives of wherever? I mean, seriously, I can sit around and tolerate just about anything on TV, but I will not enter a room where that awful show is on. It is like all of the very worst things about women that most men can't stand, all balled up into an hour long *****/rumor/gossip/whine fest. Housewife viewing has been relegated to the bedroom during football games in my house. </div><div>

First when she started stealing stuff as soon as the wife turned her head and then her scene towards the end of the show was priceless. "You ever put your hands on my daughter again, and I'll break your goddamn arm" came out of nowhere.

Her role seems to be pretty clear, but the maid is a mystery. She seems to be leaning more towards the good side in order to complement Lange's dark role, but then what the hell is up with her constantly seducing the husband?

it's always fun for the whole family.

Parks & Rec > everything else but it helps to watch the previous seasons.

Others:

Dexter - always exciting
Terra Nova - going to give it a few episodes more but agree with underwhelming. Hoping it has better season story arcs.
Hung - not my favorite but I still watch b/c I've seen it all before....the Entourage syndrome.
Up All Night - on the verge of me cancelling

I've always liked Modern Family but the hype on it is out of control. The office should be put out of it's misery. Watched Whitney and felt sorry for the future of the human race. Horrible.

Waiting on Walking Dead 2

I'm still partial to NCIS (the original - the LA version is horrible), Castle and the Mentalist along with the Sing-Off, that's about the only network stuff I watch regularly.

My wife started watching Revenge and seems to like it.

although I do think that Whitney and Suburgatory have their moments. Not DVR worth shows for me, but I've gotten a few laughs out of them. While it's not really a laugh out loud show, Happy Endings is a pretty decent quality one also and having Elish Cuthbert in it helps.

I've heard good things about Person of Interest also, but I honestly have no clue what it is. I'll have to check it out.

In terms of your last question, there aren't many reality shows in existence that don't make my skin crawl, but I'd have to say that any Housewives show would be near the top. I already have so little to say about worthless bitches that live that lifestyle as it is so to put them together into one show sounds like one of the stages of hell as far as I'm concerned.

and as previously stated, start tonight. Also, How I Met Your Mother and Criminal Minds will always get my attention.

ETA: Seeing C34's post made me remember Castle and Archer, which is most definitely the funniest cartoon ever after South Park.

FRINGE - Best sci-fi out right now. (FOX)
Boardwalk Empire - Best drama you're probably not watching. (Showtime)
Dexter - Never disappoints, ever. (Showtime)
Bored to Death - Best comedy you're probably not watching. (HBO)
Walking Dead - Zombie show with a PLOT. (AMC)
Modern Family - Al Bundy and 2 hilarious gay guys. (ABC)
House - Was cooling off for me, but the start of this season looks great (downloading it right now). If it's anything like the episode he was in the psych ward, I'll be happy. (FOX)
The Office - Banking it all on Ed Helm's popularity from the hangover. Glad the focus is moving away from Jim/Pam. (NBC)
Community - I have the weirdest boner. (NBC)
The Sing Off - Ben Folds and some hot awkward chick as judges - couldn't ask for better. (NBC)

I admit I should probably start watching Parks and Rec and Big Bang Theory.

New Girl looks like it at least has potential, but I'm not watching till someone gives me a good review.

Whitney, and Charlie's Angels look horrible.

The Playboy Club and that air hostess show look like borefests trying to capitalize on the success of 60s based Mad Men, but on basic cable. Pass.

Still on the fence with Tera Nova, will give it time.

I still watch Amazing Race, but I won't recommend it. Watchable weekly, but not DVR worthy.

Chuck - Can't believe this show is still going. Loved it for a few seasons (Yvonne Strahovski is an uber-megababe.) but all the interesting storylines wrapped up after 3 seasons. Stopped watching, but someone let me know if I shouldn't have.

CSI - Havn't watched it in like 5 years, but I'm seeing that Ted Danson is the new "guy." Might have to check it out.

2 Broke Girls - looks awful, but Kat Dennings has supernatural boobs. And since her topless photos were leaked on the net.. might not be able to stop myself from staring for an episode or so.

When the guyswent to the range this week and shot a .50 cal at a moving target, with 30 mph cross winds, and several of them hit on the first shot in less than 12 seconds, I was damn near jumping up and down in the living room. Hell of a shot.

The only problem this season is I can't stand the whiney baby, formerNavy Seal. Rather than this being about the competition, he has turned into something like the Real World. The producers are going to lose some viewers if they continue focusing on him. I am baffled that he is so damn unstable. I know that seals need to have a screw that is slightly loose but this guy is off the charts. Damn it can that fella shoot though.

Playboy Club only lasted 2 episodes, and Free Agents on NBC was just cancelled also.

The TerraNova pilot made it look real promising for me, but Ep 1 was just bad. It was one of those episodes with a beginning and end story instead of building upon the pilot and leading to the next episode.

Person of Interest is good, I like it a lot.

The obvious HBO/Showtime ones are delivering as usual.

A Gifted Man is very mediocre.

AND ASHTON KUTCHER AND TWO AND HALF MEN IS TERRIBLE. unwatchable really.. Charlie is laughing somewhere in a bath full of tiger blood

But they do so in a way that is enjoyable to nerds. At least a good 25% of the humor on that show I don't think is caught by those who aren't indoctrinated into the nerd community.

Boardwalk Empire is impressive on every level of production.<div>
</div><div>Bored to Death is pretty good too. At least, it's gotten better. There's a couple of new shows about to start that I'm not sure of, but Boardwalk is more than enough to get ya through the Fall. In the Spring, a new season of Eastbound & Down and Game of Thrones will arrive. Game of Thrones. Is. Awesome.</div>
