I have no problem with the Freezer baptizing someone.

In our faith, that's allowable. I haven't done it, myself.

A few months ago, an old friend baptized his father (a much older friend of mine) about a month before the dad passed.
That was special, for us.

Just today, I got facebook posts from Matt Wyatt and Dan Mullen that were scriptural passages.

You gotta problem with that? Let it go.

Disbelieve, if that's your proclivity. And your first amendment right.

Lighten.

Part of me agrees with you; but part of me doesn't. If Freeze is a life long friend of the Tuohy family, then him baptizing a family member is completely acceptable. Let's say for a second though that Freeze is just doing this to improve his self image and the Tuohy family chose him because of his position at the school that they love. That disgraces the sanctity of the entire act. I honestly can't believe Hugh Freeze was the best spiritual role model that they could've chosen.

If you ask me, both of these bastards disgraced an entire sacrament just to pull a PR stunt.

Got to love the SEC. We are all kinds of 17'ed up.

I have no problem with it, I just think it's schtick.

One more recruiting tool to appeal to the mommas - extreme religious fervor, so strong he can toss your children through a lake and straight into heaven.

If someone feels that being dunked in water by another person will be special, then by all means do it. It shouldnt make any difference to me.

If people value being dipped by Freeze, then cool. They feel good, Freeze feels good, and everyone can have a great memory.

Religion is used for selfish reasons every day across the country and world. Why is this time an issue- because its our rivals coach? Thats just too selectively inconsistent for me to accept. If I am going to scoff at the injustice and cheapening by Freeze, then I need to take issue with all the selfishness in religion, and I just dont have the time or energy to do that.

Haven't the Tuohy fam been friends with Freeze for a long time? Or is that just the Blind Side version?

I just don't see this as a big deal at all--especially if Freeze is ordained as he supposedly is.

Have you ever seen religion abused so badly that someone allowed a "celebrity" (in their eyes Freeze is) to perform a sacrament. Regardless of how selfish people use religion, I've never heard of something so damn disrespectful in my life.

I don't know about Baptist, but The Catholic Church has extreme reverence for the 7 sacraments. To me, being baptized by someone because you want to promote your University is just as abusive as marrying them for the same reason.

Yeah, I'd be less critical if Dan baptized one of our former basketball star's kid, but I'd still think it was wierd and wrong. You just don't do that kind of thing.

Have any of you ever stopped and entertained the notion that Freeze may just be a devout Christian? Sure I'm guessing he's made plenty of mistakes, as we all have, but if you're the type who likes to get on folks about that and can't see the big picture, then there's no use in me trying to explain this anyway.

I just don't see the problem with this. And this isn't directed at you, RCD, because we obviously agree, but rather the whole thread. I mean, why would any of you have a problem if Freeze convinced a few of his players to be Christians? Isn't that a good thing?

I don't care but it's kinda odd to me; that's all. Different traditions do different things. I, we in the Anglo-Catholic side leave that sort of thing, marriage, baptisms, burial rites, to ordained priests who we spend years vetting, educating and ordaining, not some joe off the street who knows how to dunk someone in water. I feel stupid typing this...

So there's hope that this could turn into a protestant versus Catholic versus atheist versus c34 thread right?***

Lifelong "cradle" Catholics just have a different philosophy about baptism. That is all.
