OT: Ford Lightning

I mentioned this before, but if anyone is interested I have a reservation for a Ford Lightning. I made it before I decided to move up to the mountains. It's so balls *** cold up here in the winter, it makes charging and range a nightmare for an EV and renders the truck nearly useless. I'm considering 3 options right now.

• Cancel the order.
• Place the order and "flip" the truck when it arrives since I believe many people will not want to wait for years like the Bronco.
• Find somebody that was late to order and have them pick their options, order it, and let the friend buy it upon arrival at cost(ish) Not wantint to make money on this option, just want to cover my costs.

Based on what I have seen online 15,000 will be made in 2022. 55,000 in 2023. And 80,000 in 2024. There are over 155,000 reservations as of early September. Some of those will cancel, but if they do the dealer has the option to bring the truck into inventory (according to the guy at my dealer.) So if you made a reservation today, it would most likely be 2025 before you take delivery. Based on my reservation date and number, I am looking at early 2023 if the message boards are accurate.

Anyhow, if anyone is interested, shoot me a PM. It looks like the ordering process is opening up soon and I will have to make a decision. I'll probably end up cancelling it if I don't find anyone interested in taking my spot in line. Love the tech and at $4.00 a gallon locally, I would love to save on gas, but the cold weather and complete lack of charging other than at home is going to be a problem for an EV.

Don’t you just have to run the climate control to heat the vehicle and that warms the battery at the same time? That way the battery is brought up to an operating type temp? I’m assuming you could preset that like a Tesla.

The range gets crushed in cold weather. Up to 40-50% in really cold temps. It also takes 2-3 times as long to charge and heating a garage costs more than having an ev saves for gas. So I would use 2-3 times the juice to charge and only get 150-160 miles range on the expensive 300 mile range option.

I live 118 miles from the closest Ford dealership and major city. No charging options between the towns either as you wind along a river down the mountains. We had our first snow in September this year and the last will be in May or possibly June. It's below freezing is much as it's not. In the city it would have been wonderful. EVs are no bueno in cold remote areas.

Maybe 2nd gen when the chemistry advances.

I watched the Long Way Up on Apple TV. It's a documentary with Ewan McGregor and a crew riding electric harley motorcycles and an electric Rivian truck on a 13,000 mile journey. They had lots of problems in cold weather with the harleys and rivian in cold weather with both charging and range.
