My garage door in the Madison area just keep mysteriously going up on its on? I've really never had an issue with it until the past few weeks. The first time I though I left it up, but since then I have been watching closely and it just goes up on it's own every so often. Does anyone have any suggestions for fixes? Also who should I call in this area to take a look at it? Should I just replace the whole unit?

Could be somebody in the area has something electronic working on the same frequency as your garage door. I know they should operate on a rolling frequency to help prevent that. If not then my best guess would be some kind of short in the thing that is sporadically giving power to the sensor telling the door to go up. Just keep in mind that I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night so I am by no means an expert.

What kind of motor do you have? Has a new house near you recently been built? Starkvegas has it right. You either have someone on the same frequency and when they open or close theirs, it's opening yours. Or you have a short in the push button wire. May have a staple or something pressing on the wire. First thing I'd do is clear the memory on the motor and reprogram the remotes. If that doesn't do it, you have a short somewhere. Tell me your motor and I can probably tell ya how to reprogram it.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Someone in the neighborhood must be on my same frequency, but it's weird that it just all of the sudden started. The house was built in 2006. I'll have to get back with you on the model type.

I live in Brandon and several times over the years have called Jamie Sullivan @ Mr. Fix It (yeah I know, how original) 601-918-1587 Cell or office is 601-829-1025. He's always had somebody there in an hour or two and taken good care of us. No frills good job and reasonable.

try buying a new remote first ... to program, all you do is hold the remote with-in 6 inches of the housing (there's a small antennae wire in there) and hold down the button for about 5-6 seconds to reprogram the motor to your new remote (it will give you a new code as well )

Yes, that's what I think too. I installed a Hunter ceiling fan and it would turn on and off seemingly by itself. Turns out my neighbor had an identical fan so he was operating his as well as mine, and I was probably operating his. All I had to do was change the frequency in the fan and remote. The garage door opener is probably the same. Perhaps a neighbor just installed a similar unit as his. The remotes have quite a range ... I can open mine from a block away.
