I use Garmin frequently while traveling for work. For reference, it's a 5 year old Nuvi that I update each year with new maps. For the CWS trip my pops convinced me to leave it at home and take his newer Tom Tom.
Result: On the return trip, once I got through St Louis I turned that ***** off and put her back in the case.
The Tom Tom had a bigger screen than my little Garmin and as a result it relays a lot more information. Sometimes displaying a picture of traffic lanes and which ones you should be in is helpful. And entering destination information seemed a little smoother on the Tom Tom though that's probably due to it being a newer unit.. But going through a city I wanted to chunk it out the window.
"In one mile KEEP LEFT, then KEEP LEFT and stay in the LEFT LANE. KEEP LEFT and KEEP LEFT."
Then while traveling 250 miles of wide open I-70 it would come on every 20 minutes or so... "KEEP LEFT and say in the LEFT LANE. KEEP LEFT." .......no **** you electronic *****!
Also.. Tom Tom doesn't verbally tell you numbered exit to take or what road to turn on. It just tells you to turn and you never know interstate numbers or street names unless you read the text at the top of the screen. I like Garmin's way better. A LOT better.
