I'm moving offices in a couple weeks and will be walking significantly more. My current work shoes are fine for walking short distances, but frankly suck for anything over a stretch of a tenth of a mile. I'm hoping that some of you might have some recommendations for good leather shoes that are comfortable to walk around in. I'm looking to spend something around $100-$200 a pair, but feel free to make recommendations outside that range. The shoes don't have to be super dressy, but should at least be able to go with khakis/slacks and a dress shirt.

I am extremely picky about the fit/ comfort of shoes, and I own 2 different pair of Eccos that I can wear all day.

She's pregnant and they're heels (though not very high) and she loves them. I wasn't sure about their men's shoes. I'll have to have a look at them.

I have been wearing Johnston and Murphy dress shoes for years and find them to be very comfortable.

I just bought some a couple of months back that are the most comfortable I have had.

They are called the Suffolk Venetian. I am in and out of buildings and up and down stairs all day and they are great.

I tried a pair of Cole Haans and I was not impressed. They looked nice but were very uncomfortable.

you can get dress shoes and loafers in both brands under $200/pair and they'll last forever.

If you ever get a chance to go hog wild and spend like a drunk sailor, get you a pair of Toschi's. Absolutely the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn hands down. I've had a pair for three years and I wear them probably 1/2 the year if not more.

I've had a few pairs over the years. The style usedto be called a different name, but it is basically the same shoe by Martin Dingman. As I wear out a pair I more or less turn them into house shoes and buy a new pair to use for dressy casualb/c they are incredibly comfortable while bothnew and old. They are more comfortable than any Cole Haan's I've ever had.

Merrell is a little more casual but I live in them or Sperry Gold Cups. Go with Johnston & Murphy if you need something more dressed up.

For a dressier look Johnston and Murphy. My son - in - law swears by them, and he travels all the time.

My casual shoes are Merrells - have a brown pair and black pair. Fine with Khakis and an open collar shirt.

Next step up - for me - Rockports. Have a brown and black pair, and can wear them with a blazer, khakis, dress pants, open shirt.

When I do the tie thing (which in retirement in CO I don't do often) I put on a dressier pair.

For your needs, look at Rockports. I have one pair that is ten years old and still going strong - haven't even replaced the laces.

Is the only dress shoe I will ever own. Pricey, but they fit from day one.
...the key is to get a shoe that fits your feet really well. Allen Edmonds makes shoes with unusual sizes, such as shoes with a C instep and a B heel. I wear a shoe with a AA instep and AAA heel. E.T. Wright and Allen Edmonds are the only two that make shoes with your specific measurements. Also, if you are in the 50's+ you need to take into consideration that your feel may swell during the day.

I own 3 pair of Gordon Rush dress shoes and can wear them all day in clinic or even standing in the OR all day if I forgot my OR shoes. They are pricey150-500, but very comfortable. All handmade. I bought all of mine at Nordstrom Rack for about half of their normal price. The most comfortable "dressy" shoes I have ever had. If you can get away with less dressy like ecco or rockport then dont spend the money.

A little known fact about J&M: they have a buy back program. I had a $250 pair that after about three years, a dog just ruined. They wouldn't have gone for $2 in a yard sale. Totally ruined.

I loved them so I went to buy another pair. I told the manager the story and he said bring them in and if he couldn't fix them he would give me a credit. I wasn't expecting much, but I brought them in and as I suspected, they were beyond repair, but he gave me $125 credit toward a new pair.

Want to spend & was more than I wanted to spend before I bought my first pair. I have now bought 3 pair and re-soled al of them at least once if not more. Most comfortable shoe I have ever worn & I used to be a J&M or Cole Haan guy

I love my Cole Haan shoes with the Nike Air insoles. Most comfortable pair of dress shoes I have ever owned. I previously wore Johnston and Murphys before and thought they were good also but prefer the Cole Haan.

How do you shine/polish shoes and make them look good? Even expensive shoes look like crap when I try to shine them.

I'm going down to Destin next week and will run by the J&M outlet there and try some out. I know a ton about running shoes and a good bit about hiking, but my dress shoes have always been low-end specials. I figure it's time I spend at least as much on a pair of dress shoes as I do on running shoes.

Why these shoes, or similar (Allen-Edmunds) are your best value by far:

Top of the line leather
made by people who actually wear them - Allen-Edmunds are USA, Tricksters are from a factory that opened in 1829 in London.
made to be resoled
comfort over the long haul.
You will feel like a million damn bucks wearing these things - they are attitude changers
The majority of rubber soled Chinese made designer shoes will break down over the course of months not decades. You will pay another hundred bucks, and then another, etc. Think of it as an investment in your job and your feet.

Cedar shoehorns both help the shoes stay dry and in shape, will add multiple years to your shoes. Sierra trading post has a good pair cheap, made in USA

You have to go through J&M direct.

Memphis, Nashville, Destin. Those are the likely spots. Mine went through Memphis.
