So I just went to Kroger for 3 items one of which was Sun Chips. They were $4.99 / bag OR 3 for $8.00 . Now I bought 3 and I'm happy for the savings obviously but asking myself WTF should the "fair" price for 1 bag of these littles chunks of gold plated vein blockers really be ?

3.98 at Walmart regular price, however, better overall deal at Kroger with 3/8.00. That is the problem with Kroger/Albertsons, their regular prices are ridiculous but they can have really good "sales" if you buy their minimum quantities which forces you to spend more than you intended to get that "deal". What it really shows is they can easily sell their items for less on a daily basis.

The reason the conventional stores do quantity purchases is because they are competing with the "stock the pantry" Club Stores! If you haven't noticed, Wal-Mart is now stocking pack sizes you normally see in Sam's.

Usually, the deals you see on basic grocery items are handled by "bill back" through the conpany Ad Management programs. The Ad Management DSD leads negotiate the costs with all DSD (Frito Lay, Coke, Pepsi, Beer, Etc...)
Very little markup in those lines at store level because they have built in labor cost for distribution and service.

As for the Air in the bags, think about the small single serve bags at the sandwich shops. I always get Cheetos because you get an almost full bag. Chips are so thin, they settle in the bags from the auto filler to the store. What's worse is the distribution rep trying to get as many bags on the shelf as possible and jamming the chip bags crushing the chips. That ticks my wife off way more then the air in bags

Speaking of store brands, I’ve recently discovered Krogers private selection items are awesome for the price. We buy a ton of their frozen pizzas, ice cream, & coffee
Private Selection ice cream is a hidden gem. It's $4.99 now, but I'd put it right up there with the absolute best. Just got brown butter bourbon truffle for Father's day, and it is amazing

The way these MFers shrink contents is the most chicken $h!+ move ever. Forcing me to move to store brands
The snack cakes have to be the absolute worst offender. I don't get them often anymore because they're absolutely god awful for you, but I am certain that I'm getting about 40% of the product from a box of Little Debbies that I was back in the 90s

A 12pk of coke for $9.99 now is what's BS. Especially when they put them on sale periodically for half that. You know they're still making a profit.

Kroger recently had them labeled " Buy 2 , get 3 FREE !" I thought that was still too high but I picked up 3 (figuring they meant pay for 2 but actually get 3 ) at the check out I was informed that the sign meant what it said......if you bought 2 at regular price you got 3 more free for a total of 5. Same thing with my chips this morning WTF.

When you compare the price of potatoes to the price of potato chips it'll make you wanna up your potato frying game. Id rather have French fries anyway.

Potato chips, ice cream, frozen pizza and cokes…..now I know why Mississippi folks are fat. It just took a new thread to get the answer

I've said it before, it's generally not what you're eating, it's the quantity you're eating

But all those things are loaded with stuff that just gets you addicted to them and more things like them, hence the quantity issue.

The chips were for some of the grands. I could make them do without or I could be happy.

If Kroger has a ‘sale’ it means they’re only trying to clear inventory. Fact! Don’t ask me how I know.

You’re happy right now because, potentially, you saved money on something you like. Most likely, you’ll end up being pissed at yourself because all you’ll do is end up eating more chips within a given period of time.
I too enjoy some potato chips, and have fallen for this same deal too many times in the past. I now splurge and only buy, order online, the siete brand chips. Yes it’s still chips, but I’m more disciplined and limit myself ok how much I snack because they do cost more and aren’t subject to as many extreme sales like you mentioned

Have you tried the Walmart brand of pita chips? The bag is slammed full and I swear they are better than Stacy’s.

Ground beef is up almost 17% yoy
Chicken is up 3% yoy
Pork is about the only meat you can still get cheap
Bourbon is up but leveling off since last year

I don't eat chips or drink soft drinks so not sure on stuff like that. Thank goodness we can now save $2 on a $100 purchase in MS. Until we fill up our car to go to work and we pay 3% more....smh

You can eat all those things in moderation. That’s where the issue comes in.
Except Ruffles. They are the pinnacle of plain potato chips. Especially if you are dipping in French onion dip. Also, Deans dip is terrible. Kroger brand is far superior. Even a Ruffle can’t save Deans.

Money saving opportunity, the Kroger brand chips that look like Lays or Ruffles are legit good and half the price.

There is something about the flavor and quality control of Ruffles that I pay extra for. Same with Cheerios. I like Kroger brand for a lot of stuff but they just taste better.
