Does anyone in the Starkville area no when, or if, Grumpy's is going to reopen? They have been closed for renovations for 5 months now but every time I drive by I never see any work being done. I know the last time I ate there the food seemed to be not as good and the portions woefully small (my side order of onion rings totalled 3) so I am not sure if things were declining or not. I am starting to wonder of them being closed for renovations is going to end up being permanent.

The last sign I saw up was "closed for holiday season" but I heard somewhere that they were closed for good. Sad if so, because I really liked that place.

I could have sworn that I have eaten there lately. They were practically giving away premium beer at a $1ea that day.

Seems like they were only open certain days or something.

I enjoyed beer/football in the backyard area and even though the service was a little slow, it was never so bad that I refused to go back. In general I always enjoyed it so this is a shame if it's closed for good.

Hate it if they close. That was our favorite place to go. Never had anything close to not good there

I liked that place, but I quit going. I couldn't handle how slow it had got. The service became completely unacceptable.

Last couple times I went the entrees were horrible and the beer was warm. The Alamo nachos were still on point though.

I heard the owner died last summer or so. It was open during football season, but very limited. I rode by the other day and it didn't look like there was any equipment inside the kitchen area. I loved their BBQ nachos, fish was solid too. I drank a many o' free pitchers there, I feel bad now.

I was a server there back in the fall. I can answer a ton of your questions and concerns, actually.

Most of the time, things were pretty good there, but I will tell you what was happening for each:

Bad service: You likely went in the afternoon. The afternoon waitresses were known meth heads. If it was in the evening, it was probably the girl who was more focused on stealing tips from myself and others (I got her fired when I caught her).

Slow service: We had four fryers at the start of football season. Every month or so, one broke. They never got repaired. By November we had one left, and if you think about how much that place fries food, you will understand why that would ruin things.

Bad food: Either you don't like it, or you likely ate there in the afternoon. The head cook in the afternoon was the ranking employee by experience and thought she would get the manager position when one left. She didn't, and from that point, I kid you not, she sabotaged the restaurant.

Warm beer: Can't help you there. Only thing I can think of is that we flew through our Pabst kegs so fast that they didn't have time to chill.

Any other questions?

Yea how did they make those amazing BBQ nachos?

Easy. Chips, Rotel + Cheese, 4oz of Grumpy's BBQ, BBQ sauce, Jalapenos. Don't ask me the recipe for the BBQ, as I don't know, and it takes like 18 hours to make anyway.

Oh yeah, the chips were homemade, and were made by cutting tortillas into wedges and dropping them into the fryer.

The chips were tortilla shells that had been triangled and fried fresh to order weren't they? They always showed up warm and delicious.

An easy way to make pulled pork that I do when I don't feel like smoking it, and it always turns out super delicious.

Take a 7-8 pound whole Boston butt.
Mix 1 1/2 cups apple juice, 1/2 cup liquid smoke, 1/4 cup worschteshire and inject into butt. Let marinate in fridge over night or at least 4 hours.

Rub generously with your favorite rub. I do competitive bbq and won't say my rub recipe. Place in an oven at 275 for 4 hours. After four hours remove and cover it with Parkway squeeze and wrap in foil. Place back in oven for four hours.
It'll be juicy and tender. Makes amazing sandwiches, Memphis style tacos, or bbq nachos!

Moved from Starkville 2 years ago. Me and friends went there at least once a week to get drinks and the nachos. Easily my favorite place to go. This thread ruined my day.
