Heading to Gulf Shores this weekend and was hoping for some recommendations on some good restaurants (preferbly seafood) that were good but did not cost a fortune. Between car tag renewal, tankful of propane, and now 4 new tires for the car - the vacation fund feels like it has been sodomized in a prison shower. I have looked on the internet at restaurants down there so I can see prices but have no idea if the food came out of the back of a Cysco truck or if the cooking directions are a little more involved than opening the cardboard box and dumping the contents in a deep fryer or stir occassionaly and sauce will thicken upon standing.

King Neptunes. Nothing fancy at all. It reminds me one of the old school Immigrant family owned places you used to find on the Mississippi Gulf coast. Reasonable prices and they offer steamed and grilled items, in addition to fried. It's even endorsed by The Lifestyle himself.

Doc's Seafood. The one in Orange Beach.

It's similar to King Neptune's in Gulf Shores, but, in my opinion, higher quality and slightly cheaper. Avoid the one in Gulf Shores. It is not the original and is not as good. The Orange Beach location is popular with the locals for the lunch specials.

Appreciate the info. Just went on king neptunes site and it definitely looked like the kind of place I had in mind. Will check out docs now. Anybody know anything about desoto's?

Desoto's is good. Try to go there once a trip. Expect a bit of a wait on weekends (nothing like Oyster House though). If you're feeling cheap, get the shrimp po boy @ Sea & Suds. Pretty tasty.

Desotas has great daily lunch specials (Wednesday. really awesome chicken and dumplings) and really good crab claws...King Neptunes has some of the best gumbo I've ever eaten...Cosmos is really good. These are three places that we always eat at. Bahama Bob's is also a good little place...Hazels has good coffee and an omelet station for breakfast. Franco's Italian is good.

This isn't your traditional seafood place, and it's in Orange Beach, but they have really good food. Everything is made fresh and you can tell. It doesn't look great from the outside, but it is so good. I recommend the shrimp tacos or the pork tacos.

King neptunes and doc's for G.S. area. Sunset grill and the oyster house if you don't mind driving to Pensacola.

Plus king Neptune has $2 Bloody Mary and screwdrivers at lunch. Or they used to anyway.

We went to Tacky Jacks in Ft Morgan last night, and wasn't impressed. The Bushwackers were great though.

Do yourself a favor and drive east, cross the bridge on east end of Perdido, and

Under the bridge is a placed called Fishermans Corner. Double wide with a 4 star rating. Delicious fresh seafood w a New Orleans flavor. Google it and read the reviews if u don't believe me.

Doc's in Orange Beach is a go for fried food. Sea n Suds (http://www.sea-n-suds.com/resturantMenu.htm) is a must - never had anything there that was not good. Good, cold AmberBock on the cheap. All you can eat Mullet on Tuesday and Friday nights. Never been a Neptune fan - tastes like Sysco to me... Same for Desoto's. I hit that place one day late in the afternoon, and wound up eating with all of the early birds... Not too enjoyable. Mikee's Seafood across Hwy59 from The Original Oyster House is good without breaking the bank. For that one night out, try Cobalt - under the bridge by the Caribe condos. This may be one of the best restaurants in the area.

You can drive to Pirates Cove. It's on County Road 95 in Elberta. It will take about 30-40 minutes from Gulf Shores depending on the traffic. This is the origin of Jimmy Buffet's song "Cheesburger in Paradise". Everyone should go here at least once.

Never knew you could get there by land. I can believe Jimmy Buffet wrote a song about their burgers though. Hands down the best burger I've ever had.
