Vlad Guerrero Jr. just broke the single round record for the derby with 29. Wikipedia says he’s now Mayor of Dinger City.

I know this kind of thing doesn’t say a lot about in game hitting, but man that guy has some serious raw power.

Eduardo Perez also just set the world record for most times beating a dead horse when talking about the advantage lefties have against righties in this contest (despite the fact that Vlad Jr, a righty, is running away with it so far).

I love the story Kyle Peterson tells about Perez from his days as a kid having sunflower seed fights with Junior Griffey. Apparently one hit Pete Rose one night and as his “punishment” he spent many nights sitting next to the hit king soaking in the nuances of reading a pitcher and the intricacies of hitting.

Yeah because Bregman doesn’t belong in this competition.

Then Acuña goes out and puts up a 24 spot. Pretty impressive round not straight pull hitting.

Pretty fun watching Pederson and Vlad, jr slug it out. I like the format of the HR derby now.

You could tell that Acuna was without a doubt the best hitter in that HR. His use of power to all fields in the derby is something I know I've never seen in a HR Derby. He really showed that he could go any way with a pitch and still hit it out of the park.
