then it's cicadas. It was measured at 83 decibels in my neighborhood a couple of weeks ago at the height of the noise. There was no way to escape them either.

I have never seen/heard anything like it before. People who work outside for longer than 4 hours a day were in danger of hearing loss because they were so loud. If they do make it to Mississippi, try to look for a blue eyed one. Supposedly they are extremely rare and some company in Kentucky will cut a decent sized check for one.
