They seem to have a chart for everything. I would have expected some appreciable difference but honestly the fat % is closer than I would have thought across the board. And a propensity of gyms doesn’t seem to matter…Gyms are great but it’s a small part of the equation.
Do they have a chart of average daily caloric intake per state? That’s the key to the obesity rate.
I suspect a ton of that correlation is just population density. If you're in the car a lot and don't walk anywhere, you're more likely to be fat. THe more population density, the more areas you have with plenty of gyms, although there is probably an offset where slightly rural areas probably have more gyms per capita and those gyms just have to struggle to amke it by with fewer people.
lol they charge people for images like thatTake it up with these guys.

“Fitness Donut in my Mouth” could work as a doughnut place…I guess now I know why there is a gym franchise called "LA Fitness" , but you never see one called "Houston Fitness" or "Memphis Fitness"... or even "Issaquena Fitness".
Visual Capitalist. I cannot provide a physical address, nor can I suggest that pursuing strangulation is a good idea.Topic aside - I want to strangle whoever made this graphic to get their point across.
It really is disgusting how fat we've gotten as a nation. I've hear the phrase fat phobic, but I think we need a word that's more like fatist (or fattist?) for really hating fat people and we need to encourage it. I'm basically a self hating fattist at this point because I'm pissed I ever got over weight, and it was so unnecessary. Could have completely avoided it with just a little bit of awareness. And it's getting worse with old age. At some point I may have to drop off this board because of all you (well, us) fat 17s.It’s crazy that MS is only slightly fatter than half the states. We’re all fat
Please explain the standing desk concept to me, benefits in particular?I eat one meal per day. And I never stop moving during the day, stand up at my desk. I reduced my caffeine intake to 1/3 of what I was getting. I lost 80 lbs over two years so far, dropped my cholesterol over 80 pts (to nearly normal now), A1C is great, I'm a much happier human being, & wake up with a boner every morning.
Don't need a gym if you eat right and stay active.
But you see Planet Fitness and that covers them all.I guess now I know why there is a gym franchise called "LA Fitness" , but you never see one called "Houston Fitness" or "Memphis Fitness"... or even "Issaquena Fitness".
Indeed and presumably those people paid. "Content" I suppose. There's a lot of it out there but that's up there for combining pointless data with bad graphics.lol they charge people for images like that
Thus my statement above. The number of gyms in Mississippi is basically irrelevant to our obesity rate. What theses studies don’t point out is there are certain demographic groups that have no issue with or shame in being obese, in fact it may be considered attractive in that group.
That's going to line up with income level as well. It's a lot cheaper/easier to eat gas station tater logs and sticky buns than go find a salad. What theses studies don’t point out is there are certain demographic groups that have no issue with or shame in being obese, in fact it may be considered attractive in that group.
Don’t fall into that “food desert” narrative. It’s cheaper to eat a salad than most other items. Go to the hood and open an all you can eat salad bar for $5 and a Popeyes. The Popeyes will thrive and salad bar will go out of business. It’s about discipline and choices. If you’re not shamed by being fat/not concerned about being healthy, then you're going to eat what tastes best. That's going to line up with income level as well. Ok?…..so what’s the solutionDo you realize we’ve basically eliminated “they need more willpower” from the obesity conversation?
Because you aren't sitting. Nothing worse for you than sitting all day. I walk a lot during the day and try to sit very little, I'm always moving. My back stopped bothering me when I quit sitting so much. I sit when I'm driving, bush hogging, etc. Losing that weight made me feel so much better and my stamina really improved. I've thought about joining gym for the weights but I use a kettle ball already so just saved the money. Please explain the standing desk concept to me, benefits in particular?
Well for one, we need to stop advertising that popping a pill or taking a GLP is the fastest and safest way to get in shape.Ok?…..so what’s the solution
We've got 6 people in our office that ordered them and maybe 1 of them still uses theirs, everybody else just puts their junk on top of it. I walk around all day in the office and walk to lunch a lot of days. I think I'd quit if they issued me a standing desk. I did join the gym and make it 3 or 4 days a week. All of those things still require you make a choice to lose weight.Well for one, we need to stop advertising that popping a pill or taking a GLP is the fastest and safest way to get in shape.
Second, as @johnson86-1 alluded to, we need to bring shame back into the functioning society equation. Our society has gone to **** because any critique is looked down upon because God forbid we might shame someone. We can't call people pedo's, they are now minor attracted persons. People aren't fat, they are higher weight. 17 that.
Third, start pressuring the powers that be to lower prices on healthier options at the store or at least be more competitive with less healthy options. Again though, even doing that, people have to make wise choices
Which is why my last sentence was people have to make wise choices. All of those things still require you make a choice to lose weight.
If you're tall like me, you have to be sure to get one that will raise high enough for you. I had one too low and had to slump over but replaced it, and all good. It took awhile to do it all the time because your brain is saying sit down, but it's not bad once you get used to it. Add an under desk treadmill and you can walk too. We've got 6 people in our office that ordered them and maybe 1 of them still uses theirs, everybody else just puts their junk on top of it. Price is not what stops people from eating healthier. It's convenience and taste. Most people that are obese are drinking sodas and buying things like chips and frozen dinners. You can eat a diet of eggs (or you used to could), beans, canned tuna, whole chickens, peanut butter etc for cheaper than you can eat most processed food. I can usually get a whole chicken for as cheap or cheaper than a sixpack of coke.Well for one, we need to stop advertising that popping a pill or taking a GLP is the fastest and safest way to get in shape.

Same with Europe. They’re all skinny and they walk everywhereI was visiting NY many years ago. Primarily lower Manhattan. I noticed I did not see many over weight people. (comparatively)
It dawned on me, not many people actually own a car, and they walked almost everywhere they went.
