OT - Internet speed question

So right now I've got Comcast cable internet with an avg download speed typically around 25 MB/s. Other than web browsing, the main thing we use it for is Netflix streaming. After just getting off the phone with DirectTV to haggle my way to another year of free Sunday ticket, I was told that I could knock another $15 off my bill by moving my internet to Century Link. The issue, however, is that their max speed is 10 MB/s.

So the obvious question is this... Do any of you tech guys think that I'll be disappointed if I were to drop down to 10 MB/s or is that still plenty of speed for streaming and internet? Thanks

In my opinion that will work for Netflix streaming and general internet usage. I have 8MB/s down (stuck in the stone ages, I know) and stream Netflix with no issues. Takes a few seconds to buffer but it's really negligible.

I think you'll be okay.

AT&T DSL is the only option where I live, and it's about that speed. Netflix might buffer a second or two when you start, but it's not bothersome at all.

Plenty for a single stream

10 Mbps is more than enough for a single Netflix stream. SD works on 3 Mbps and HD will work well on 5 or 6. So unless you need to stream 2 HD movies at once or want to do 3D, you probably won't notice a difference going from 25 to 10.

I'm running ATT Uverse 18MB but my speed tests show i'm really getting about 12. We frequently stream netflix on 2 and sometimes 3 devices at the same time and rarely see any issues.

Since the service is "best effort", assume that you will get about half that bandwidth. Since it is from Century Link, assume half of that half. I'd eat lunch out one time less per month (save $15) and stick with Comcast.

I buy mine from a guy that works a bar in town...

...I haven't found a reliable "vender" over the internet yet. I just sit here and color for the next 72 hours until someone can let us know.
