He was an original Met. I became a Mets fan in 1962 and remember most of those guys like it was last year.
I believe Richie Asburn hit 300+ in his one and only year with the Mets along with a career high of 7 HR.
Just double checked Ashburn hit 306 for the Mets in their first year which was 62 not 64.
Interesting side note in my look up, Christopher taught Ashburn to say I got it in Spanish so Elio ChCon who spoke little English would know that he was being called off. Only problem occurred when Frank Thomas who didn’t know Spanish collided with Ashburn and asked what’s a “yellow tanngo“

Ashburn was just plain a .300 hitter. He could foul off a dozen consecutive pitches if he wanted to.
